On the surface, most people would think I have a pretty great job. I get to be creative and make things people want, my boss gives me time off pretty much whenever I need it and never asks why. It's 9:30-5:30 Monday through Friday which is what everyone wants to work so they can be home with kids on the weekends or go on weekend trips... I hate it! Digging a little deeper, I've been there five years and am still for the most part treated like I am totally new to the job and don't know anything. My opinions are swept under the rug like they don't hold water. The boss went on vacation for a week in March. When she does this, it has just always been understood that I come in 15 minutes or so early to open the shop. I got there the first day she was gone, put my key in the door....and it wouldn't turn. Took it out, tried again, still nothing. A little while later, here comes her husband (the other owner but not really my boss, per se) "Oh, guess she didn't give you a new key." Huh huh nope guess she didn't. I was LOCKED OUT! So yesterday I turned in an application to be a store manager at Hot Topic. I know a lot of people would ask why give up this great job at this small business where you get to do pretty much whatever to go work in a retail store as a corporate drone. Because I've been a corporate drone at a retail store and I loved it! Plus, Hot Topic offers insurance benefits, this small business doesn't, Hot Topic reimburses me for my concert tickets, this small business doesn't... I guess I don't really have a question for everyone, just thinking "out loud."

It's funny how jobs are. I know that in the past I hated the type of work I was in but now that I am without a job I will do anything for a bit of money and so am applying pretty much anywhere that I can walk to. This small business sounds ideal but not ideal for you anymore. Like you said it's just not working out for you anymore so go work for hot topic and enjoy it. Not many people can say that they do work they enjoy!

It's your life and you need to do whats right for you. If your current employer threats you like a stranger after five years with them they don't deserve your efforts. Good luck on your new job.

I think you should do what is the right thing for you and what would make you happy, even though it may seem that you have an easy job now,if your thoughts are of no influence to your talent at your job, and goes unrecognized then maybe it is a good time to think about a job change.I wish you well and have a nice day.
