Time to throw away my map of Africa. All welcome South Sudan!

United States

I was just getting used to my globe and maps. Seems like every time I settle in with my map collection, some country has to come along, or collapse, or rename itself. This year's winner is South Sudan. Welcome to the world little buddy, but thanks for nothin'. Now I've got to go get a new globe and a new map of Africa. (As always, we need to view this country in how it affects me!) I was okay with some minor name changes and new countries in South Central Africa years ago. I was okay with Germany's return to one-ness and the obliteration of Yugoslavia and Czechoslavakia. I didn't even really care about the break-up of the Soviet Union since I had memorized the individual Republics of the USSR years before. However, I am worried this is getting out of hand. Why can't these changes happen all at once? It's like when America was adding states so quickly in the 1800's: "Better add a star to the flag, Bob, we just got another one!" was a monthly game back then. What big changes do you remember? What maps do you have that are fairly useless now? I hope noone's still using the Lincoln Encyclopedia. I think the last edition still had the US at 48 states.
