Does Being Late Throw Your Day Off?

My mother drove me to work today and she was late coming to pick me up. By late I mean 30 minutes late. I absolutely hate being late to work. I hate the feeling I get in my stomach, I hate feeling like everyone is mad at me for it. It kind of threw off my entire day today. Have you ever been late and it threw your day off? How do you feel about being late? Does it make you nervous too?

I hate being late. Unfortunately, my lady is never on time. And I mean never, ever, ever. It's impossible for her to be on time. She's always at least ten minutes late and that's on a good day. It drives me wonko. Totally. But there's nothing I can do about it.

Oh man YES this describes me PERFECTLY. I am incredibly OCD about being on time. I have been late to work ONCE in the past 2 years and although that's not that bad, I still am mad at myself for oversleeping that one day. And it was only by 20 minutes so again it could have been worse. I am compulsively on time for work though. For family events, friends, gettogethers, etc -i am rarely on time. But I feel like being late to work reflects poorly upon yourself as an employee.

I'm glad I am not the only one. No that's not bad at all. This was the first time I was ever late and it is bugging me SO bad! I feel awful and I feel like everyone is looking at me differently like I am unresponsible or something. I know they don't feel that way because I am always here on time but it bothers me just the same.

It used to throw my day off...I work for myself now so no one can give me heck for being late. If im late for an appointment it bothers me...it bothers me when others are late for appointments too. Sometimes...with people always running late it feels like others have no respect for the people waiting for them. I feel that more so if there isnt a phone call to say hey...I'm running late is it ok if i make it at such and such a time. So i always make a point of making that call. Then i dont feel guilty...or nervous and people arent upset for having to wait.

I agree with you. A phone call always shows that they at least respect you and what you do. Yeah I did call in but I was still getting worried, that is just my personality though. I hate it but it's true...

It definitly shows respect. I have a friend who is terrible for being late....and not for a "good reason" most of the time...Theres been times i've finally after an hour of waiting for her called and found out hey shes sitting in the bar drinking and couldnt be bothered to cancel. And she wonders why now after all these years of friendship i wont make plans to meet her at a certain time.

I hate being late. It throws off my whole day. If I am late for work, I feel rushed and stressed all day long. When I am late for something, it makes me nervous and makes me feel like I am late for everything else the whole day. It tends to ruin the entire day.

I understand. That is exactly how I am feeling. And my day unfortunately hasn't gotten any better. Yeah my day is pretty much ruined. It was the minute I stepped into work. It makes me so nervous I hate that feeling!

I know I'll get salary deductions when I'm late but it didn't really bother me at all. There were many times that I was late already but it seemed okay for me. I know it sounds irresponsible of me but it really doesn't bother me at all.

That's unfortunate. You should take some time off and breathe, maybe that's all you need.

Everyone is different. It doesn't sound irresponsible, some people don't let a lot of things bother them. Everything unfortunately bothers me. =(

I am not a great a punctuality person, personally.I had to tried to remove the lateness in me.But has'nt got the result till now.It happens in me internally to become late.I always manage to do things at the very last moment.I am trying now to remove this bad habit of calling the problems myself.

Oh man that stinks. Thank goodness I didn't get in any trouble or penalized in any way at all. I have worked here almost a year and this is the first time I was late so my boss knows that I am usually the first one here every day.

Well due to Medical issues and having to rely on my husband to get me back and forth to work right now, I am always late for work. Anywhere from 45 mins. to an hr. and a half. He works days about 30 mins from here, has to come home pick me up, and then take me about 45 mins from here to work. (I work 15 mins further away from his work). So in turn everyone is always looking at me and usually complaining all the time, but there is nothing I can do right now about it. But the feeling of knowing the eyes looking at me and everyone talking about me all the time is getting old.

Yeah I'm sure that is tough also. I have to rely on people to take me to and from work as well so I understand the feeling. It is a bad feeling when everyone looks at you like that. I feel like saying mind your business and turn your head the other way sometimes...It gets annoying for you I'm sure.

I hate it too. Yeah I am my worst critic too. My boss wasn't mad he was worried because I just never do that. He automatically thought something bad happened to me.

Yeah, I am not usually late either. I felt terrible and it kind of ruined my day yesterday. It was an awful feeling. Thank God it only happened that once since I started working here almost a year ago. So my boss knew this wasn't something I do all the time...

I've only been late a few times and it did seem to throw things off. However that said, the ladies I work with are always coming in late and causing me to be behind but there's nothing much we can do about it. It's always something.

Yeah it threw my day off yesterday. It was awful. I hate it when other people are late also. Most of the people that work here have their days of being late but this was my first time and my boss called the office to make sure I had gotten there safe because he thought something happened to me. I am just never late like that.

I don't like being late because it means that you can't get everything done that you would normally do in your day. I hate it when you arrange to meet up with somebody and then they're late, as this leaves you waiting on your own for a long time when you could have been spending that time by doing something with your day that would have been much more useful. Everyone should try to be on time because it just helps everyone to plan their day a lot easier when they know what they're doing.

I have the habit of being late . Well I don't intentionally do it but I just happen to be the last person to reach the destination whenever we have some gatherings or girls day outs. I get the weird feeling on my stomach too and I know there'd be angry faces when I reach. But yeah I do have a friend who usually come later than me I don't know, we just can't be on time!!

Not really. I have accepted the fact that sometimes, somethings go wrong. If other can't understand that, I'll offer to be mad at them when they come in late.

I consider myself a workaholic, and constantly being 'evaluated' at work, so I also hate being late. And I am all too familiar with the sickening feeling in the stomach when I come in feeling that everyone is mad at me. At my previous job, coming late really throws me off, as we had a certain amount of time that we had to spend in the office. If I come in 30 minutes late, it meant I had to stay for 30 minutes longer. Thankfully, in this new job of mine, I don't have that hourly requirement.

I hate running late, especially for work. i have a two year old, so it seems like I never get out the door on time. I am hoping with my new job, that i will get a bit more help from my hubby. that or i am just going to have to get up earlier to get me ready to go and the car packed up before I even wake my daughter up. Still working on the logistics.

Yeah I know the feeling. I have 3 children, 5, 3 & 2 years old. I do understand what your saying trust me! The more children you have the harder it is to get out the door on time. I have to get up an hour before my ride comes to get the kids and myself ready for the day. This morning I got up an hour and a half earlier to be able to relax before waking my babies.

Me and my time till we part ways. I'm someone who can postpone something important because of being ten minutes late. I have been through this, it drives me mad to see time ticking away as my tasks ahead becoming minimal. That is the reason I always allocate +five or ten minutes when I'm waiting for someone, if the person does not tern up in time... then it means quit -leave.
