Facebook and Myspace are the giants of social networking. Today, everybody has a Facebook account. Technological advancements that enable us to keep in touch with friends and family around the world are remarkable, but are the benefits really worth it? Society raves how convenient it is to send and receive real-time updates from people around the world. I must admit that I do believe this to be revolutionary, but I am beginning to see the cons that go along with it. This revolution of social networking is consuming millions of Americans. Employees are using cellular phones at work, mothers are spending hours on Yo-Ville (a popular Facebook game)instead of tending to their children, and relationships are falling apart due to inappropriate content being posted on profile pages. Where do we draw the line? I am not exempt from the Facebook saga. I recognized the amount of time that I was spending on the application. I became distracted while I was doing school school work, and while I was spending time with my wife and children. I suppose I never realized how addicting the application was. I enjoy technology and all the advancements that are being made. The question I have is; Are we sacrificing the value of life?

Like anything else in life, Facebook has both benefits and drawbacks. I have a facebook account. However, I have a busy and active life and do not consider myself addicted to Facebook. Facebook is a wonderful way to reconnect with old friends and find distant family members. I do not play games on facebook. I have used Facebook to raise money for charity and to encourage others by posting Bible verses and participating in a Prayer Group.

May I aks where you are from? In my area it is well known that many people have a serious issue with Facebook. I was a store manager and I had multiple members of my staff who got in trouble many times because they were posting on Facebook while they were supposed to be working. I also know many couples that are not "allowed" to have Facebook accounts because of the drama that it causes. Also people that delete their accounts because of the issues that it causes. Do you think it could be the demographic differences?

hmmm, I would think MD would be a similar culture to NY? I am just surprised that you do not have the same issues in your area. Even if not YOU specifically, but many people that do.

Facebook is not really a good thing. Something that connects us with the world. I think we should be grateful that we have it. Facebook is everywhere and everybody enjoyed what the good of being able to find new friends also talk with everyone. nice day!

I agree that being connected to current friends and meeting new ones is a wonderful feature. However, how much is TOO much? When does it become and obsession really? Why are workers getting in trouble for using social networking from their work computers? Why do you think this is becoming such a problem nationwide?
