...person? I have seen quite a few discussions lately where the poster of the discussion ignored the cardinal sin of NOT assuming things about an entire group or sub-class!!
I belong to the order of folks who believe those who assume c.r.a.p. about other people based on well... nothing really... ARE less intelligent or at least they act that way by immediately opening mouth and inserting foot!
Care to join me for a stimulating chat about this problem?

I am hedging my bets that people who assume (incorrectly) about people - either groups or individually - are LESS INTELLIGENT, because someone with a brain would know better than to assume based on well... nothing.
I reserve assumptions until I have actually interacted with someone so I have some REAL evidence to go on. That's not to say that people do not form assumptions, PRIVATELY - but it is clearly showing an absence of intelligence to SPOUT YOUR ASSUMPTIONS in front of or TO the person. You risk making a gigantic fool of yourself, in 97% or more of cases your assumption will be incorrect, partially incorrect, or simply amuse or annoy the person who will then probably not want anything else to do with you....
A wise person remembers that we have two ears and only one mouth for a reason. Learn some actual information about a person before believing you know anything about them.

Well I normally keep my assumptions to myself. Generally because I assume that even if I told someone what I believe, it would not help them. The only time I tell someone what I believe in a specific situation, is if that person requests to know, and I generally avoid that question if possible. (again because it is normally a waste to tell them).
However, I will say that I have rarely been wrong in my assumptions. I doubt you would believe me if I explained every instance, so why waste your time.
Be well :)

I think that when people assume things that they miss out on the big picture of everything....yes...I think that in many ways it might make a very intelligent person be considered a not so intelligent person at all if they assume they know things. The thing is that what they think they know...they don't know at all and the worst part about it is they often go through their whole lives holding on to an image that is false. I suppose they never even realize they were wrong.

Excuse me.. no I am not fat because I eat pizzas and sub sandwiches and gorge on chocolate pie all day. I have a disease which requires medication that makes me bloat and I have arthritis in my knees which keeps me from being able to be as active as I would like. Thanks for your concern.
No, I am not puerto rican. I'm not vietnamese. I don't eat cats, dogs, or speak swahili. Are you deaf or do you just not understand ENGLISH? Yes, we are in the US and people here DO speak english.
I did not get pregnant at age 12 and I'm not single or on welfare.
I'm not unemployed because I got fired. I'm unemployed because I'm RETIRED...
and so on and so forth. LOL!

I don't thnk that people who assume things are less intelligent than anyone else. i think they just don't take the time to look at the whole picture and get all the facts before they voice their opinions.@mommyboo (13174)

Hmmm. But it is a sign that they have a lack of common sense at least... to blurt something with NO EVIDENCE OF TRUTH behind it... especially concerning a stranger they don't even know lol.
Or maybe that's called being obtuse and having no filters.
