Mum has been having trouble with her Dawes bike she has had for many years, so she had it serviced by a guy who does all the Police bikes. He'd done the usual brilliant job BUT had placed a bog-standard propstand onto it..the other one had broke. The other day Mum counted how many times the bike fell over on this new stand...8! So, a couple of days ago she asked me to email Dawes, the makers of the bike, based in the Midlands. Today, I received an email from them telling me that yes, indeed their propstands are universal for ALL their bikes and will send Mum one through the post! WHOOPEE! I only hope my Dad doesn't swear when he tries to fit it as only a "competent" person should do so!

Free of charge? Well that's wonderful! I've been looking into getting myself a bicycle to travel on and from what I have been able to tell they have changed from when I was a kid! They no longer have a spot for a waterbottle, but that is a bit off subject. I hope that fitting that new kickstand won't be too much of a hassle, but if it becomes one could the guy who fixed her bike before put it on for little to no charge?

Well, the guy who serviced her bike does them for free anyway as it's his job. Unfortunately, Mum won't be there from Friday onwards as she's being "potted" from the Council but, you never know, he may come round to her house in future..but I doubt he will service the bike for nothing. As for the bike stand, it didn't specify in the email if it's free or not but, knowing Dawes like I do (well-respected) I doubt they will charge Mum for it. Good, eh?

I have had an experience like this before. I had Bose 901 speakers that I had bought in the 80's. I had them for 14 years, then one day I turned on my stereo and noticed that the sound was a little tinny and it sounded like something was vibrating. So, I removed the back of the speaker and noticed that the foam surround was rotting away. I called Bose company and they told me that they were aware of this problem. I was amazed and shocked. I told them that they were 14 years old, they said, don't worry, just send them back and we will send you a brand new pair. Wow. So I did, They did send me the newer version of the 901 speaker at no cost t me. Now the speakers that I had that were 14 years old I bought for 800 dollars. The new ones that they sent me 14 years later sold for 1500 dollars, and I got them for free. Now thats what I call standing by their product.

I tried that with Bowers & Wilkins but, alas, they want to charge me for a new tweeter. Mind you, it was Dad's fault it's damaged as he knocked it over when cleaning the windows one time. Still works fine though. As for Bose...AWESOME!

Hiya Janey, Well that is good then and she will have her bike in one piece again after? Personally I have never heard of Dawes but thats because I have been here for so long you see and I am from the Midlands good for them anyway. I have a pressure Cooker that I bought here and not mentioning the name of the make but the lid broke the part in the middle dropped through the hole and it won´t go back again and get this it would cost me more than its worth to get it replaced so I use the both saucepans but without the lid. Ways of the World too. It seems although the pressure Cooker has a famous name it´s made elsewhere now not like before. Before also you could cook anything except pasta in it and now you can´t so they have changed the quality of it too. Hope she gets the stand fixed and everything.xxx

I bet it's a Prestige..am I right? Cookware in particular is such poor quality now (especially anything made of stainless steel) I'd be reluctant to buy the dearest, just in case that's been made in the same place as the cheapest. Do you know what I mean? Yes, once the bike has its new stand on it be complete and very happy I would think..just like its owner!

This is what I call great customer service indeed. It does happen now and then that we fall on a great company and great people working there. Well if your dad is like mine.....maybe YOU should try and fit it then lol.

Yes that is what I call Customer Service and Satisfaction! I have had a few instances as you mentioned and it has shocked me as more times then not I would get a full run around causing me to spend more. So this is great and hope your Father can figure it out also.

Mum will probably break the news gently to Dad..like, "Can you put my stand on for me please?" No dobut some swearing will ensue..but he will do it..under protest as he usually does with odd-jobs!

The guy who does all the Police bikes likely muddle through his job ,I mean he placed a bog-standard propstand on your Mum's bike.Dawes 's post-sale service is good and their accessories are universal. An enterprise should pay attention not only to the quality of the products but also to the post-sale service, this way,It can be in an invincible position.

Well, he gets there in the end but he has to use millions of swear words to get to that point!

I had some work done on my car. I took it into the shop for the work. When the car came back my husband found something wrong. We took it back to the shop. They started to repair the damage when they broke something else. So instead of repairing a small part, it became bigger. Then when I got some more work done on th car while they repaired the damage done, they broke something else again. I then had a little joke, "Keep braking things on my car and I could get it all replaced for free." service like that would make me go back again and again.

That's fantastic. Doesn't it feel great when you've received excellent customer service? Unfortunately too often we receive crappy customer service and it really says a lot about a company. Glad to hear that this company has lived up to its word and is dealing with their customers so well!
