making money by writing

I contacted a person who is looking for a writer. I wanted to write for the person and he pays 0.5$ for 300 words. Is this a OK rate? Thank you

Simple answer: no. Complex answer: it depends. If it takes you 30 minutes to write 300 words, you'll be earning $1 an hour. Is that a reasonable rate for your efforts? Would you take a normal job at $1 an hour? If you would, then it's a reasonable rate. Otherwise, it isn't. In the end, it's your choice but I know I wouldn't write more than about 20 words for half a dollar.

It all depends upon the quality of writing, the subject, the capacity of the person to pay. However, 50 cents for 300 words seems to be far too much on the lower side - far too low. If the person is US based, then as a comparison, the minimum offer (which I refused) that I have ever received was 5 cents per word, or about 15US$ per 300 word article. The payor was looking for a low cost writer from Asia - I live in India. In case you need the money and have no other option then accept it, but, as soon as you get a better offer, quit the 50 cents per 300 words. Look at it from the the other point - can you deliver more than, say 10 dollars per day worth of articles and will you have buyers for 20 articles per day (say at least 6000 words) and assuming that you can survive at Us$10 per day. Note an average book (novel) of around 250 pages is 75000 words. Do you think that you could manage to write coherent, interesting content day in and day out - the actual term would be, 'can you churn out that kind of content that will sell? Please note that even in a low cost of living country such as India, Us$10 translates to just around Rs.450 to Rs.500 per day or Rs. 15,000/- per month, assuming that you work during weekends too. Today, an average human in a lower middle class house needs about Rs.7-8000/- per month just to barely survive in a city. I personally would never accept a 50 cent per 300 words offer from anyone. No offense intended.

Personally, I wouldn't work for that rate as it's way too low. I'd feel miserable. As such I couldn't advise anyone else to work for it. However, it's your decision - totally up to you.

The good rate is $0.01 per word so $3 per 300 words, if you write 600 words in 60 minutes then $6 per hour and $144 per 24 hours which is theologically a reasonable rate .

Im interesdted to know where you saw this oportunity and also for some clarification on the ammout you are paid for the work. It might be benifical for me as I am able to wrie a large amount of text, being an English graduate who waffles and easily goes over my work count. I am now trying to limit my posts on here as know you are not credited for the lenghth of your discussions. It's a shame you can't see what your word count is on here - that wouuld be an improvement, so instead you have to copy and paste it into word to get to find thid out. Hopefully experience will gine you a feel for this.v

No, it's not a good rate even if you were just rewriting the article. A penny a word is more like it.Then you would be earning $3 an article maybe $1.50 an article instead of a slave wage of 50 cent. Remember research is the big part of writing ...

$0.50 for 300 words? That's a bit insulting! I guess a $2 - $5 will do for a beginner.

It seems a little low to me. However, I have three clients for which I write. One pays me very well usually 2-3 dollars for each 300 word post. (depending on the amount of research needed and the technical difficulty sometimes 4or 5 per 350 word post) I have another client hwo pays about a doolar for 400 words and increases the pay as the words are increased. Then i have one who pays small amounts - but also gives me large amounts of work. Usually .75 per 400 words. They are usually very easy to write and require little or no research. I keep all three because between the three of them I can bring in quite a bit.

For me no I would not write 300 word article for 50cents it is completely up to you. What I take into account when I do write articles is that I thoroughly research before I begin to write and for 50 cents hardly seems worth for me. It is ultimately it is your decision but do take into account that plenty of sites will be willing to pay more and how much time it will take you to do them. I did two of them here for Sharonbucks last week and they paid me $2.50 each. Which is low but they were quite easy to do.

It sounds very low to me, but it all depends on what you think yourself. How long do you think it will take you to write these 300 words? Do you have to do tons of research for it? I personally would not write for that little, but it depends on if you have other options and other jobs to do.

I don't know if it is an okay rate, but I would definitely do it, because it is easier to write 300 words about one single thing than writing less for more topics. I could do around 4 dollars a day from that, which would be good, I believe.

My response might sound like echoes of those above, so I'll cut it short. Seems to low to me. Really up to you. I wouldn't have done it, then again I am currently working on a dream project for $12 an article but even if the project ends I'll still not do it. I write with conviction and I think I can live without those pennies for a few days until I get a decent gig. If you write well there are good opportunities lying around, try to hunt them down. And finally to conclude, it's all up to you.

Have you tried Odesk or some similar sites? I'm pretty sure they would pay you a lot more than just $0.50 cents. Don't waste your talent like that. Or how about talking to the employer for a better rate.

I think if you're not busy at all and just looking for a part-time job. Maybe you can grab that. But if it requires you to work for a full day. Maybe its not a good idea.
