Looks like another big chain store is closing, or at least in the process of closing. http://www.nbcactionnews.com/dpp/news/national/no-storybook-ending-for-borders-WPTV1311026896448. I liked the Borders store. I used to frequently visit the store, grab a book, chair, my laptop & a coffee. It was quiet & there were few times I would get some work done. Now that the chain is closing, I guess I'm gonna have to find a new place.

You may have liked it, but the mere fact that you could sit there and just do your work in peace shows that only a few people appreciate it being there and any business without many clients would soon shut down. There are far too many coffee shops around my area as well. It's even surprising that they're still open with just about 2-5 people at most. Not to mention that the coffee isn't that great and the food is expensive as well. I'm even wondering why so many people wanted or opened their own coffeeshops. Anyhow, I hope you'll find a new spot. But I am hoping that it's not you that's causing people to not to stay there. hahahaha.. Perhaps you made it feel like it's a workplace rather than a hang out. Hahahaha.. Good luck to the next shop you shut down. hahahaha... Oh by the way, I hope you won't take this as something serious, I'm just joking about the whole 'you shut them down thing'. Have a great MyLot experience today!

This store chain closing down reminds me of a big supermarket chain here in Maryland that's shutting down most of it's stores. It's called Superfresh. They just went bankrupt as of this year. It's so heart breaking to see this place go.

Borders has been closed in the UK for a while now I used to like borders too, but I have to be honest, the main reason I liked it was because it was cheap. It wasn't as well laid out as other book stores, and it definitely didn't have the same calm, quiet atmosphere. I don't know about your borders, but ours was constantly mobbed, and the fact it had huge yellow decorations everywhere was pretty distracting. Anyways, I know lots of people who used to love shopping in borders - who wouldn't when you can buy a book for £1 in there, when WHSmiths or Waterstones sell the same book for £5? But I guess they were marking stuff down too much, and not making any money. It is a shame, but like I said, ours have been closed for at least 6 months now, and you just have to find somewhere else.

Honestly, this breaks my heart. Borders was the book store to go to, when I lived in Ann Arbor. And thanks to being the home of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is a town of book stores and coffee shops. When I graduated from U of M and moved to a little bitty town with few extras, there were many things I missed--museums, theaters, certain restaurants, but Borders was the one I missed most. When I hear of things like this, it makes me wonder if we are ever going to get to a point where the future isn't bleak. Now I realize this isn't some major crisis--the same books can be found in another place, and it's not like people are dying. It just feels like all the wonderful "minor" things are being chipped away--eventually all those "minors" will equal a "major".
