well i had a traumatic experience the other day! my jack russell pixie likes to stand at the top of the stairs, drop her ball down them, and then race the ball to the bottom of their stairs. pretty handy having a dog that can amuse itself lol! well the other day pixie was doing just that, and shes the fastest dog i have ever seen, shes like a whippet! .. next thing all i heard was my partner screaming "paula, quickly!! grab the dog, theres blood, theres blood!!!!" .. so theres me with a cigarette in one hand a cup of tea in the other, bouncing up from the sofa to race to get the dog, thinking something terrible had happened! the blood was obscene! literally it was everywhere and dripping down her leg. she had ran and hid under our bed which is where she hides when she does something wrong, so clearly she thought by making the mess of the blood, she'd done something wrong! i looked down the stairs and could see nothing that she'd cut herself with. eventually we had got her out from under the bed, and me assuming she'd tore her leg off or something, was relieved to find, she had merely torn her back nail, almost in half, and quite close to her actual paw. she must have snagged it on the carpet. the mass amount of blood came because there is a tiny blood vessel that runs up the nail, which is why there are stoppers on dog nail clippers, so you don't cut the blood vessel. the whole thing wasn't that serious though and she was taken to the vets and the nail was cut, and she had a dressing put on it. so for two days she kept lifting her little red cast up to let us seee! so cute!! so this discussion is.. has anything bad ever happened to your pet? and do you have insurance?

Awww, that's so sad!! It's always heartbreaking to see our pets in pain or with any injuries. Luckily she's okay! I haven't had my dogs tear a nail like that but one time my dog was outside and somehow managed to get close enough to a toad and it somehow got her sick. She came inside and started throwing up everywhere and then on the way to the vet's she started having seizures. It was horrible but luckily we caught it in time and she's perfectly fine now. I hope Pixie feels better!!

awww thanks so much! her wee bandage came off last night and shes been licking her wee wound. but she seems on the mend. to be honest i think the bandage was more uncomfortable than the actual nail! oh my goodness thats terrible! i'd no idea toads could even make you sick.. i doubt we have many toads here in the uk, probably more just frogs.. well thats a bit stupid we probably do have toads lol but i dont think they are posionous! thats really awful! what type of dog is your dog?
