I always look and see what we need before heading out to the grocery store and sometimes I will make a list but most of the time I just know what we need and what to get, and before I go I will also check all my coupons as well, but it is so hard to "stick to the list" And it is funny last Saturday when I was in the grocery store I saw a grandpa with his grand daughter and he went the other way in his scooter he he he and she told him "GranDpa we need to stick to the list! Where are you going?" He replied with a smile I am going to look at the clothes. He he he he L.O.L. It is all too common in every day that we have a list an seem not to be able to stick to it what about you? Can you stick to the list or do you get side tracked by discount signs in the stores like Grandpa did? L.O.L.

yes. people buy based on coupons discount. On my part i make a small list and go but the real list will be big - i will buy on seeing things in the shelf. good day.

I try to stick to my lists. If I didn´t, I´d have serious money problems or I´d eat in a bad way. As it is, I always have nice things to eat at home but it is mainly due to my sticking to my lists. That way, nothing gets lost or thrown away.

I try to most of the time especially when money is tight but I do get side tracked sometimes if I see a shirt or some item of clothing say for $2.00- $3.00 I will grab one but only one. And other times if I see a garage sale on the way to grocery shopping I will stop because sometimes you can find some nice clothes for 50 cents!! L.O.L.

Fortunatly I am not much into clothes, except when I´m on vacations. Itseems that when I go out I get the need to buty some things. Usually I only buy what I need.
Today I bought the most beautiful yarn at a shop near the super. I´ll knit me an awesome cap as time is coming when my hair will fall for a while.

hi ja!
yeah, i always make sure i make a list of things i need to buy before i go to a grocery. this way i can stick to my budget and i don't forget anything. making a list and sticking to it are two different things though. lol!
i figure the grandpa was having the time of his life when he decided to skip the list and look for clothes instead. not sticking to a grocery list can be quite liberating, yes? hahahahaha!!!
anyway, its always good to keep a list handy so one has an idea about the things he needs to buy. i make sure i bring mine when doing my grocery but i also keep an eye for other items not in my list. an impulse buy, within the budget of course, is good once in awhile.

I am pretty good about sticking to what I need. But sometimes I will walk into a store where they have buy one get one free. If it is something I use a lot then I deffinately will pick up those items. In the long run it saves me money on items that I use daily or weekly.
These type items would be the more expensive ones such as coffee, pharmacutical items, even personal items like toothpaste.
I don't go to Walmart anymore so I won't be found in the clothes section etc.
you may not spend more money on food but you hit sections for yourself or children and a lot of times winding up with items you don't need.

i would think that it was quite a funny scene seeing the grandpa scoot off to the sale section to get a couple of shirts and the kid chasing the grandpa stopping him from making any 'unnecessary' purchases!!!
lol!

That is so true you or your children will see something other than groceries and there you are giving in well not all the time but sometimes.

Hahaha!
Poor Grandpa, his guardian is so strict!!
Anyway, yes! I also make a list before going doing the groceries. It's more efficient. It saves a lot of time and often, money as well.
My list contains all the needed items for home. If ever we want something else other than what's on the list, we still get them.haha!

Hahahaha...I am an American now living in the Philippines with my wife and when we go to the store it takes us hours because she says I am always sidetracked and looking a stuff. She does not understand that she is from here and and I'm not, so I see all sorts of different things to look at. Especially in the super market. Now when we go out she tells people we will be back in 4 hours even if we are only going out for an hour of grocery shopping...lol

I always get the flyers too. I heard some economist saying that when a product is on promotion, you should buy a considerable amount, of course, if you need the product.
That's why when I see my shampoo on promotion, I already buy shampoo for the whole year.

I am pretty good about planning meals ahead of time and buying what i need from the planned meals. If there is a really good price on something we use regularly, like pasta, then i will buy off the list, especially if i know i have a coupon to go with it.

I always stick to my list if my budget is really just for it. But sometimes, i would have some extra budget for a certain list and i would always look for things that i really love to buy, like those new colors of nail polish or some new canned goods that i would like to try.

I only make a list because if I don't I will always forget something.
It's normally something we really need. However, I never stick directly to the list. I just make sure I have everything on it before I checkout. I discovered I really shouldn't go grocery shopping without eating first.
If I don't eat first, everything in the store looks appealing $250 later we are checkout.
I always buy items not on my list. I suppose if I stuck to the list shopping would be cheaper. Best Wishes!

I agree always eat before you go!!
Because I will be looking for all kinds of food and what kinds of free samples they have L.O.L. Happens sometimes to me but I learned now I will for sure eat something before I go grocery shopping.

For me, I always stick to the list. One way to do that is to try to limit the money you have available. But if you use credit cards, that would be impossible to do.
Straight budgets are sometimes compromised by sudden discounts and promos in the grocery stores. But of course, some of them are worth the opportunity to grab so it really depends on your judgment. So this dilemma is kind of tricky and will really depend on your discipline. I always have things in mind before I go in the grocery store. I always make it a point to go out from the grocery store with all that I need and a bit or no extra at all. Just a bit. Haha!

I seem to not be able to stick to a list if I made one for the day, I always end up going to a few different stores becuse some things are cheaper in other places.

That probably was a funny scene to watch!
I rarely make a list, I think that's the reason why we spend so much money in supermarkets! The worst thing is that I like to hang out on the markets, so, imagine how much useless things I buy! But, even on the times that I make a list, I always buy something else too.
