What are some good STEAM games to play?

I recently decided to get STEAM. Steam is basically a service that let's you get online and offline games at basically, super discounts. In most cases, discounts of which you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. With this being said, I was curious for those aware of what steam is if you had any suggestions for any good games to get? I am more of an Indie/RTS/RPG kind of person, but some shooter games are alright. Can you help?

Have Terraria.
Don't like CS. I do like CS2D a lot, though. ha.
Civ is ok, may consider that one. Thanks!

get tf2 (team fortress 2) its an amazing game it is so fun i got to playing through my friend and he has been playing it for 4 years and has never got bored of it. I play it every day it is so much fun and it is FREE if you want to upgrade all you need to do is buy an item in the store of the game its worth it!

I've played that, I am not a big fan of that, but hey.. you can't go wrong with free! It's an ok game. Thanks for the input! I remember it costing at one point or so my friends told me and that recently it has been free. I suppose "recently" may be many months now lol since it has been.

Try Portal and Portal 2 - they're good games to start on, since they're two of the best games I know on Steam. I also recommend Team Fortress 2. The Portal series is more realistic physics-style, while Team Fortress 2 follows a cartoon-style concept.

Really? Because I really really strongly dislike the Portal series. I think not only is it short, but direction-less. Yes, it's a puzzle game and it's "unique". But. It really has nothing else going for it. It's pretty generic, repetitive, and humor that "tries too hard". That's my take on Portal lol
Team Fortress 2 is OK. Wasn't really my preference. I wouldn't go as far as saying I didn't like it, though.

Lol. you're like me, i don't like portal neither xD
You should try Call of Duty Mw2 or wait for battlefield 3 or cod mw3.
Or if you want an RPG, i've heard that Witcher 2 it's one of the best RPG's of all time.

Heard of the other ones. They're alright. Never been a big shooter fan but I won't deny I enjoy them from time to time.
Never heard of Witcher though, what's that about?
