No the DOE does not have a swat team what it has is U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General special agents. These agents served a search warrant on a man looking for his wife. They broke down his door at 6AM and handcuffed him and put him and his 3 children in the police car for 6 hours.
We don't know what they were investigating other that it might be fraud and they seemed to be looking for financial documents. It does answer one question and that was brought up on MyLot last year. That question is why does the Department of Education need 27 Remington Brand Model 870 police 12-gauge shotguns?
If you go to the U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General web page you can see the type of crimes they go after. In looking over the list I did not see one case where guns needed to be used as they were going after school officals, students in college or sales men.

Does the Dept of Education really need an army of armed agents to investigate and break down doors. Maybe we could save some money by letting the FBI or the US Marshal's office handle this or have the investigator go with local police and serve the search warrant.
Just for good measure I am going to check to see that I have paid in full all my student loans.
