Since the book of modern fantasy is derived, probably as good as any, except of course the Science Fiction RPs. But Lord of the Rings Online times in any case;). I also think the whole series of high fantasy RPG, Dragon Age something like Baldur's Gate, etc.

Tolkien may well have been the ancestor of the quasi-fantasy, but that is why all role playing is derived therefrom nonsense. There may be a whole part of the model have to Tolkien, but not all. Very much modern fantasy role-playing comes from the largest part of Pen & Paper games or tabletop. The best known of any fantasy fan should know what is the Dungeons & Dragons from the 70s

So if now goes to characters and plot ... So many role-playing on the pc are guided more by the great principle of dungeons and dragons, which in turn was influenced heavily by tolkien. orks are indeed used again and again, but also invented again and again. priests, warriors, elves and fairies, gods and evil and sorcery gabs now before hdr. and generally, will also have had tolkien his inspiration from somewhere, from the almost biblical battle good against small and weak and strong great evil, to mythic stories up about dragons, elves and glowing undead ...
