My Touch Screen Stopped responding to my touch

last night i have noticed that my touchscreen became insensitive to my touch. whenever i touch the screen or widget on the screen it won't do any thing. i can move the screen up or down but it won't get the job done. it would only respond to the physical button just below the touch screen which are the buttons for calling and ending a call. and also the home button which is in the middle of the two buttons.
Although it will still shut down or turn on when want to, but besides that i can't do any thing on that screen any more.
I have searched online. Some says i need to replace the screen or the touch screen. some say the motherboard of the phone is damaged and need to be repaired. do you have any experience on this kind of problem. My phone is nokia 5230. i bought it last May 2010.
Hope anyone can offer me some advice. I hope it won't be expensive to have this fixed.

I also had a similar problem. The phone was not responsive with my touch. I tried to restart it by turning it off and taking out the battery for a few minutes. It worked when I turned it on.

i would bring it tomorrow in nokia repair center because it does not work at all even after restarting.

I don't know if this will help but I had a problem with my touch screen not responding and my husband told me to take the back off, remove the battery, then replace the battery and put the back back on, unless there is a 'reset' button on the back (where you push in a tiny hole with a pen or something small to 'reboot' your phone.
If this doesn't fix the problem, I'd say it's time to get a new phone or at least have this one serviced.

i did that already and nothing happened. actually yours is freezing. it is not freeazing actually. i can still move the screen up and down only that the buttons don't work any more. the screen button. like the button for messages it won't open or the camera button on the screen. but i can scroll down and up all the menus and nothing more. i think better have it serviced as i have no money to buy new one for now.
