Life choices

In life a person chooses his or her hobbies. Some hobbies are free and easy to do and others are expensive and hard to afford. Free hobbies or low cost hobbies include walking, cycling, swimming in the sea, reading library books and writing stories. Some people like to collect things and most find somewhere to store the collection. Some people choose to live in the city where life is noisy and their life is very busy. Other people prefer to live in the countryside where it is quiet and peaceful. The coast is a popular place to live for people that like seeing the ocean. It is lovely for a person to live near his or her place of work. Then he or she doesn't have to commute a long distance. Many people like to have pets in their home. In my home country popular choices are dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, budgies, canaries and fish in a tank or a pond. Which hobbies have you chosen? Are they low cost or expensive? Which location do you choose to live in? Why? Do you have any pets? If so which ones?

Dear Maxine, This is a moment where there´s a bend in the road of my life, so some things have changed, including my hobbies. My dog was lost last year. In spite of all I asked and the rewards I placed, Lola never came back. I decided not to have another pet yet. Then came my trip to Aruba (you know that traveling is one of my hobbies) and later on I was discovered to have cancer. So now everything is in standby. I have traded my travel hobby to other loves. I am reading more and will write again. I can do all that without my going out of the house. I tend my garden and cook new things following the rules of the oncologist, yet eating as well as ever. I can eat raw veggies only because they are homegrown. So, as you see, sometimes the hobbies change and they choose us. A big hug

Dear Marguicha, I am delighted to hear that are having some enjoyable hobbies like reading, cooking and gardening. I like to eat raw vegetables and salad is my favorite. You are right that hobbies can change and a person can get new interests. You could write about your travels and I would read this with much interest. Your writing is excellent and if you want to you could write a book. I am so sorry about your cancer and you seem to be doing really well fighting it. It was awful when Lola didn't come back. I like looking back at pets from the past and I think of them with lots of fondness. A big hug to you my dear friend.

One of my friend writers came to see me yesterday and coaxed me into writing for a web page of Arts and Literature here. She wrote me today and told me she was already waiting for my page. I´ll have to take my time though, but I like the idea.

I love doing arts and crafts....some are inexpensive and some are not. I live in a small town in a rural community because I love what it offers and is a calmer life....I used to have a dog. And I probably will never have one again....he was one of a kind!

I like the sound of living in a town in a fairly rural community. I walked along the High Street last year and saw a lovely bungalow. However it was too expensive. As soon as I saw it I wanted to have it. I was so lucky to find a buyer for my house. So last year I moved from the edge of a coastal town into the town more. I still have an area of grass to look out on. I know what you mean about your previous dog being one of a kind. I hope that you have happy memories of him.

swimming in the sea isn't a free hobby if you don't live near the sea, and for some people its hard to even find a place to swim because they live in deserts I live in a pretty large city, but I don't really live a "city" life, more of a "suburb" life because I don't chose to go down into the city center and I live in a neighborhood where, while I have neighbors all around, if I don't go outside, I don't really have to deal with the people around me... I have cats and I don't consider them a "hobby" they are my "children" since I never chose to have human ones...

I know what you mean about the convenience of suburb life. I grew up in one of the home counties of London. I liked visiting it for sightseeing and learning but not living there. I was pleased to move to a village three miles from a historic city when I was 19 years old. After 14 years of owning that I moved to a different area. I lived for 5 years overlooking fields on the edge of a coastal town. Swimming isn't possible due to sinking mud and dangerous tides here.

I once lived in a countryside and loved the serenity of country living. Since my children have left the nest and living in a 5 roomed house is no longer practical for me so I opted to live in my new townhouse. I am slowly adjusting myself to urban life, a far cry from the peace and quietness of a country dwelling. But the only beauty of living in town area is the easy reach to all facilities like mega shopping malls, hospitals and the airport. The only downside of living in a townhouse is I am only allowed to keep 2 dogs at any one time. Since I have 5 dogs I have no choice but to find good homes for the other three. It is sad but I hope my dogs are well taken care of by their new master.

It was lovely that you have the memories of living in the countryside. I hope that you will fully adjust to living in the town now. It is very sad that you are only allowed to keep two out of your five dogs. I hope that you will find a loving person to own the ones you are not able to keep. Good luck.

I think your hobbies sound economical. Taking a walk after supper keeps you fit. I adore visiting my local library and am happy to see you do too.

I like to cycle and my bike wasn't too expensive. I also like swimming when I am on holiday as I prefer swimming in the sea and there is not tht many nice places near to me to swim! I do like watersports like kayaking but, I find that it is harder to do without as much expense involved!

Personally for the most part my hobbies are Writing, drawing and crocheting. I have even been Selling a lot of the items I have been crocheting. We own a Dog. He is a 6 yr. old Pomeranian with papers. We Love him and would not trade him for the world. Right now I live in a smaller city about 30 mins or so from Seattle. I Love living here because it is small enough to be quiet, but is a City so there is always something to do.

I like to go cycling but, my bike isn't a very expensive model. I also enjoy going ot the cinema and do this two or three times a month although myself and hubby have one of those unlimited cards so we can see as many films as we want. It is a good deal for us as for a small amount we can have a day at the cinema for less than if we bought tickets everytime we went.

I guess at my age, i am not into hobbies that requires a lot of my time and effort. I prefer to watch tv programs that interests and entertains me so much. Or i would read books in my free time, which is rare nowadays because i have a full time job on weekdays and Sundays will be worship time, groceries and cleaning of our bedroom. We live in the province, because we want a laid back life and a job that won't require us to be always in a fast paced life. We want to live our lives, one day at a time.

I was born, grow and live in the city. But i always wanted to have a place in mountain side or sea side just to relax and have sometimes a peace of mind. Living in a city is quite expensive. I love to read books, watch movie. Part of my collections are the movies i like. I also love to walk as part of my daily exercise routine. I am simple kind of person despite living in an expensive, noisy city.
