The role of SEO in getting traffic to your writings and earning from it...

The basis of most money making programs, as in blogging, content and creative writing, is the amount of traffic we manage to get for our blogs/ articles etc. However, it's not everybody's cup of tea. As much as SEO sounds easy it's actually not. Even with all the technicalities we fail to get traffic to our blogs. With the much hyped 'content is the king' I have found that SEO is the key to blogging, if you are someone who is trying to earn from it. To make a discussion, how do you use SEO to the optimum to get more viewership and earn from your writings?

Hi mimpi! Thanks for enlightening me about SEO i.e. Search engine optimization. I did not know about it before you mentioned it in your post. I still do not know much about the subject matter, however, I understand that the way we give tags or key words to our blogs/write ups could be one of the factors for drawing traffic to our contents. Also, the title of our blogs should also be meaningful and catchy so that more and more people could go for it. For example if I want to search for articles on ‘worry’, I may type in the Search Engine ‘How not to worry’ or ‘How to reduce our worries’ and if any article or its key words/tags are falling within these words, it would appear on the screen and till I read the contents of the article I cannot come to know whether it is of any use to me or not. I feel blogs/articles starting with the words like How, why, what and which etc. easily find their way on the searched pages.

That was insightful. And I agree with you deepak. The key words with which we would search for something make the article SEO pro. Thanks so much for your valuable suggestion.

1.Use of the item/topic in 3-4 places throughout the article, start, middle and end 2. Title must contain the item along with common words associated with it. 3. Use of keywords These are the basics, which most would know and the little that I know. I tried researching a little more in depth a while back and then realized that its a very vast subject and one needs to understand and get onto a host of other applications to know it better. End of it I got confused.

Theoretically, it sounds easy but practically it really confuses us.

I have studied this a little and from what I can understand, the first task is to get a good keyword that relates to your article or post. one that is not too competitive and also it not too rare that nobody hardly ever does any searches. I have read that it is important to use the keyword in the URL for your article/blogpost. So if you are blogging about for instance, special tea.. you would name that post Special Tea, so that your url would look something like, www.blog.com/speical_tea The use the keywords "special tea" about 3-4 times early in the article, but not to use it too much or the search engines would see it as spam.. That's where it tends to get difficult. Then back-links are important, so that if you exchange weblinks to another website, you would need to link to that page using the keywords "special tea" as part of the link. Then the backlinks need to be from sites that relate to your blog and not just any site that has nothing in common with it. Well, that's the way I understand the process, and I have put it into practice as much as I can, but getting the right keyword and search phrases is the trickiest part in my opinion, and this has to be thoroughly researched via Googe. I also have a program called Market Samuria that is good, but takes some studying. _Derek

Glad it is working for you. I don't worry too much about SEO because I am retired and have other things to do besides working, and SEO is work. I mainly blog for fun, but do monetize my blogs to make them self-supporting. They are not intended to support me, but of course it is fun when more earnings come in than expected. Have fun.

I've never really considered myself to be particularly good at SEO. I tend to just make sure I have plenty of keywords in my articles, use informative but captivating titles as often as I can and hope for the best. On some of my blogs I use sitemaps because they're supposed to help as well, but for the vast majority of my websites I haven't really done a lot of dedicated SEO work.
