I cried too much when I saw some filipino people who eats dog -- and it says, its our culture. I accept some cultures here in the Philippines, but not all of them like for example people who eats dog. Being a filipino, are you ashame of your own culture? I for one, I do not like my own culture to be called that filipino people eats dog.

Why should ashamed of my own culture if just a few fellowmen who can do that? I'm sure there a lot of things you don't like to our own culture as Filipino beside of eating dogs. Me also and I do not eat dogs either. But it is not a reason to be ashamed of. What I ashamed of, are those Filipinos who are ashamed of their own culture as being a Filipino also known as Crab Mentality.

Any situations, the past, the present, the future, the history, the good, the Spaniards, the Catholic Church. Or the so many, many bad or the worst ever happened or whatever may it be done by me and by other fellow Filipinos, I will not be ashamed of being a Filipino at all, at any cost, I should always stand proud of it. Don't be ashamed to our fellow Filipinos who like to eat or munch dogs or even cats. If you can, just tell them don't eat dogs or cats it is a bad thing for being a Filipino. Or just give them foods if you can. Or just teach them to the right kind of foods if you can. And If you can't or don't do anything and just being only ashamed of of our own culture, then you should be ashamed by only yourself and not as whole of the Filipino culture, you are not right to be proud as a Filipino because your are not helping at all to be as a Filipino. We should help each other as being Filipinos. We should help other fellow Filipinos to have a good and better life instead of forever searching only the bad or worsts things in our culture so you can have a reasons to be ashamed of our culture.

...it depends on the situation. If it there is nothing to ashame for being a filipino, so let us be proud to be a filipino -- it depends on the culture we had here in the Philippines. Like what I said, I choose what I know is right -- if it is culturally wrong, I would not accept it. Like the 'spaniards culture' who brought christianity here in the Philippines. Spaniards influenced us in politics like the Catholic church who always meddling the government. From the life of Jose Rizal upto now, the Catholic church has been in politics for almost a year and is always meddling the government like for example, the CBCP. Even reproductive health bill was against by the Catholic church. This is our filipino culture so, for me, it really depends on the situation. If I know that it is not right, I would not be proud of it. I was proud to be a filipino and I was proud with my own culture when I heard that RPG Metanoia, the first 2d and 3d animated film was created by the first filipino animator, and was realeased here in the Philippines, but I would really be ashame with my own country if one filipino brag that he or she ates dogs. It really depends on the situation.

I would not be ashame of my country and neither should you!...each to their own I should say...different cultures eat what's available to them. I always remember what my mum used to say[ never say I won't drink from this well] because you never know what you will face in life!.

Sorry -- Neither should I? -- but there is nothing you can do if this is what I feel. I only accept filipino culture that I know is right, but when it comes to those filipino who eats dogs, sorry to say -- I would say that in my own culture, I ashame of my own country. Even my aunt who lives in Canada, she told me that it was very shameful for those filipino people who just went there and brag that they ate dogs. U-oh...

I don't condemned my hometown for having such culture. Yes,I came from that place where they eat dog,but I don't. I was born and raised from the South and only happens to live and stay in my hometown Baguio City for few years because I got married and stays here in Manila for 19 yrs. Most of the people from the North eats dog...my mother who is from LA UNION also do not eat dog,but people in there usually eat dog. I feel sad also, whenever I saw a dog being slaughtered and cooked. But what can I do,it is already there (culture) before I was born. I never asked or question those people...they are there, they were used to it,while I am not because I was born and raised from CEBU where people seldom eat dog. I know everywhere in our country, people eat dog,but this is known from the NORTH. Very sad...but then again..what can we do about this? Thu,young genre are not following this kind of culture, let's home one day this will be stopped once the older ones gone and the young ones won't accept and follow such steps anymore. jaiho®

If it's part of our culture so be it. Why should I be ashamed if I have countrymen who loves to eat dog meat? I would, if we eat other people but we don't. To eat or not to eat dog meat should be a choice (and I made mine and that's not to eat dog meat) and not to be dictated upon by people especially those who don't eat dog meat. If I put myself in the shoes of those who eat dog meat, I will stop eating based on scientific findings examples are it's health implications like you get rabies if you do, you could get parasite blah blah. I came across an article that says eating dog meat started about 6000 to 8000 years ago which means that it's been around for so long so why should we change it? For health reasons I think those who do should, but it if because other people are lobbying for it then don't.

Well its everyone's choice whether they want to eat something right. So no one also should be forced into not eating something that he used to eat not unless as you have said due to health concerns. But nonetheless we should still have the right to eat what we want.

Majority of Filipinos dont eat dogs. I would say there used to be like 1% but now there are fewer since we already have a law that makes illegal the consumption and sale of dog meat. Most of the so-called dog eaters belongs to places where hunter-gathering used to be the primary source of food. The dogs are primarily pets or guardians of the families. But when these people have hard times looking for food, they resort to eating dog meat to survive. Time passed by, they modernized but their old folks passed them down this as some kind of a tradition. Nowadays a few stubborn and moneyed individual do these secretly but as I have said they are exceptions rather than the rule. I dont understand why some people are hyping up this issue. A supposed to be developed nation still practices dog-eating and they even sell dog meat openly in their markets. Why not condemn them instead of us who have progressed so as to make this illegal?

Yup the statistics shows it all. Lesser and lesser Filipinos consume dog meat since according to them it very difficult now to find dog meat sellers. Their used to be a market for dog meat in the north but it was shut down because of the new law implemented.

Eating dogs is not as bad as eating fetus? So tell me who is more barbaric? Cultures eating fetus or our culture who eats dogs? hmmm just a thought to ponder although I am not fond of eating dog. Tasted one it's not that bad but based on DOH it has some micro bacterias that are harmful for human consumption which explains why if you eat dog your body gets warm. As for being ashamed of me being a FILIPINO is a big no no. I am very proud of being a FILIPINO no matter what!

Both of them is barbaric. Besides, this is not our culture, they just want to make it our own culture. I do not know why. I think, let us call it a 'subculture' to those people who ate dogs here in the Philippines. When I was a child, in my whole life, no one taught me that this is our culture so, I do not understand those filipino people who ate dogs. It is in my conscience that tells me that it is not right to kill dogs. Like for example, if you were born here on this earth, you know God automatically even if your parents do not teach you that there's a superior being that guides us. The same with the dogs.

It's not a culture to eat dog, friend. Animal is a creature that God given us to eat. When God created the whole universe...he gives human to control all the inhabitant on earth and make them as foods... So, there is nothing wrong to eat dog. It maybe bad others because in the beginning of their lives they are not considered those animals as meat...but Asian countries will eat those animals and nothing wrong with it... I am not shy as a Filipino about this things. I am a Filipino and proud to be a Filipino... If those foreign people don't accept what kind of life I am living it's find...I am stand what I about to be

what's wrong with eating dogs? when you have no food left and your only resort is to eat a dog, won't you eat it? I guess eating a dog is not a barometer for you to cry and be ashamed of your culture. go search over what is the culture in other countries. it migjt enlighten you and make you proud of what you are ashamed of.

It's something very common, but remained very unacceptable. I find it disgusting! I don't see the point to why they should torture dogs for the sake of preventing starvation. It's not like we can't eat fruits, veggies, pork, beef, or the like! The nerve of that stupid people!

In hunger a man does lose the taste or what the person is actually eating. The hunger is a very bad thing which makes a person lose control . Those who lose their control will loose everything in their life.

Eating dogs is not really part of our culture. It is just that some people mostly somewhere north are fond of eating them. I believe it is already restricted to kill and eat dogs. I'm really sad about this, I really love dogs and there are many food that is available in our country still. I'm not really ashamed since it is not part really of our culture.

My parents and brother eat dog. In our family, I'm the only one who does not because I'm scared it might have rabies. I see no reason to be ashamed of eating dogs. First of all, because we eat other animals. If we don't eat other animals but just dog, that's when I would be scared of. Second, not only Filipinos eat dogs. I think this mindset comes from the fact dogs are close to us. But what we should be ashamed of for me is when we kill animals just for fun or we make them extinct. That's what we should be ashamed of. But eating animals is allowed by God (he did not say except dog/cat )and is fine. But of course, if you don't like to eat it, don't eat it. If you like, fine, just.. you know.. be careful.

Meat is meat. I see no real difference between eating a dog and eating a chicken. It's still an animal. I've never eaten dog but I'm not opposed to eating it if I had to. I had a boyfriend who is from the PI when he was still there he had a pet dog. One day he came home from school and the dog was gone. Turns out one of the neighbors took the dog and ate it. If you are so opposed to people eating dog then you should be just as angry and embarrassed when people eat chicken, cow, goat, fish (people have fish as pets too) and any other animal.

Yes, this is truly sad about our culture.. but it has been their habit already, and only a few of us do this anyway. I just hope they can find other food to eat or at least not kill the dog in a very painful way.

in every community, there are certain social (and culinary) norms. what may be considered disgusting for one community may even be sacred to another. do you eat pork? some cultures shun the eating of pork. while some, even beef. they may be thinking the same way as you do about cultures who eat dogmeat. i don't eat dogmeat, but i don't mind people who do. i wouldn't be ashamed at all. other cultures would just have to respect it. (abuse to dogs and to other animals is another story.)
