Smart Ultimate All-Star Weekend (Philippines)

Anyone of you here who have witnessed the gathering of some of the famous NBA players to come and battle against the Philippine players on an exhibition game? This happened last week (August 23 & 24, 2011) featuring Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, James Harden, Javale McGee, Tyreke Evans, Derrick Williams, and Derek Fisher. They battled against PBA (professional league in the country) players on August 23 and the Philippine Team on August 24. This was one of the largest event to have happened in the Philippines since NBA players are way too expensive for a third-world country. What do you think guys are the factors that made this event successful? Do you think NBA should now look closer at the Philippines after knowing how the fans here love basketball? :)

the smart ultimate all-star weekend was a treat to all filipino basketball fans. unfortunately, i missed it. however, both the fans and players enjoyed their time. and so the sponsors that gained prominence in the minds of the people. i think nba players know that filipinos love basketball. it is just that we are in the same continent as china and japan. nba is attractive to bigger and lucrative markets than love to the sports.

Wow! And we all did missed it eh? Maybe those elite people with networks inside the ticket office were the one who pulled off all the tickets and hoarded it against us. We'll just have to wait for their next visit in here and hopefully they bring in some more stars. I like the idea of seeing Blake Griffin slamming home in the Philippines!

You just said it, the tickets went out at a super fast rate. Its funny though that after knowing that the tickets were all sold out (except for some very far or standing positions), I happened to see some tickets selling on the internet with prices twice, thrice, or even four times the original. Anyway, let's just hope for another chance to get to see them live. And we should be more alert on that one :D

The Filipinos really enjoyed that show. The jam-packed attendance and fast ticket sold-out rate justifies the love for basketball of the Filipinos. I also missed that one but I had a chance to watch it on the television so it is still ok that I caught a glimpsed of my idol D.Rose and K.Durant alongside my local favorites like L.A. Tenorio. We really hope this won't be the last time. :)

Arrgh! I really wanted to see that one but the tickets are already sold out! I really would love to see the reigning MVP Derrick Rose and scoring champ Kevin Durant in action alongside my idol Kobe Bryant! If only my friends who should've bought the tickets weren't that lame! I think NBA players and stars have much of their time trying to explore other countries is because of the lockout in the NBA and the unsettled collective bargaining agreement. Most players in the NBA are already touring on different countries and others already signed a contract for different international teams. I think that seeing the Philippines as a basketball crazy country, more NBA stars will visit us once again. The next time they come here I won't miss the chance to see them!

You sure did miss a lot there man. If the lockout continues, would it be also possible to see them playing side by side with our players? That would be great! But I still don't think we can afford their talent fees. LOL

If you mean to say having NBA players as imports in the Philippines then I think it won't happen at all. Even with the lockout! But maybe they have increase in promotional tours and endorsements all over the globe to facilitate their earnings as the lockout continues. Yes, I did missed a lot and I can really pinpoint who to blame for that! Maybe I'm destined to watch them next time.

Oh really? So, who shall we make pay for it because you have not gotten a ticket for that? LOL! I love that attitude! Maybe we are destined the next time they come here not just to sit on the back of their bench but to even ask for their jerseys/shoes. Cool! :)

This event was made possible because of Manny V. Pangilinan who created the MVP sports foundation, I think this event will really put professional filipino basketball players in the global basketball world.

Yeah MVP is a billionaire and a sports fanatic. I think world class basketball team pilipinas would not be too far away thanks to MVP that invest in the philippine sport to make us world class team.
