Today will be our last beach/bbq/fishing day.

Our van's safety inspection is up on August 31, and we can't afford to fix it up to get the inspection sticker renewed, and we have to save up for another vehicle. So today is our last day to go to the local beach and have a supper barbeque, and go to a fishing wharf to catch mackerel for Hubby's parents. Oh wow, you should just SEE my kids go after the fish once they hit the wharf pavement!!!! They're so excited and pick up the fish and let it wiggle in their hands. And the design on the mackerel is so beautiful, I think it's my favourite fish so far to look at. We don't eat them ourselves, but Hubby's parents would eat them like candy, that's how much they love the taste. I don't fish but I like to go around the wharf to take pictures, even climbing down the side railing for picture angles.
Last summer, it was steamy hot, so we went down every weekend, but this summer it's kinda cool and wet, so we haven't been able to go down that much anyway, but I bet August is gonna be steamy and hot....just when we're vehicle-less!
So anyway, I know we can't really afford this excursion, but we decided to make just one last trip down to the beach (it's only a 45 minute drive) and let Hubby enjoy his escapade just one last time for this summer...

That stinks, so you will be without a car soon? You probably live in the city, where I live, if we had no car, it also means no income, food, or anything because we live more in the country..But I know what it is like having no car, because we only have one and since my husband has a job and I don't, guess who gets the car??? Even when he is home, he'll say that the car is acting up so he has to drive, which might be true, but it stinks all the same..

There's public transportation and bicycle, in fact our city has lots of bike trails. I'm used to having no car, because I"m visually impaired, but my husband....wow, it's gonna be a huge downer for him, but as I told him it's only 1 month of summer without a vehicle, and another month in the fall where he'll be able to save up for another cheap vehicle.

Yeah, my county doesn't even have public transportation, let alone where I live...I hope you find a nice car, anymore with gas prices, the only good deals one gets are the gas guzzlers that no one wants...

I see this was three weeks ago while I was away out of town. I hope you all had a wonderful time and can remember wonderful moments as these for years to come.
I also do stuff like this and although at times we can't afford it we make the best of it as life truly goes on way too fast.

I hope you guys have fun. Any neighbor's you could car pool with? Maybe it doesn't necessarily have to be your last beach trip. What about you're in laws car? I know the money is still a factor, but you can always go down for a day trip and enjoy the summer sun and beautiful beach scenery.

Insurance is picky here in Nova Scotia, so we can't borrow anyone's car. It's only one more month before the kids go back to school.

It sounds like a nice little escape. It is too bad that you won't be able to enjoy it any more this year, but, at least, you did get this one last summertime trip in.
Fixing autos can be so terribly expensive. My boyfriend wishes that we weren't in the position of needing an auto; he has especially been voicing that recently, since we might be looking at an expensive repair to our vehicle. Unfortunately, since the bank still owns it, selling it and buying another pre-owned one isn't possible right now. When we'd bought this, I'd hoped that it would last for several years without needing any major repairs.
I did, however, tell the boyfriend that I want our next auto to be a "classic" car that doesn't have all of these computer chips. The more complicated the auto, the more difficult and expensive it is to repair.

Oh, I just LOVE those old classic cars that actually look like cars, not bubbles and spaceships! When I first met Hubby he was driving a 1979 Buick Regal and we just loved the car. Unfortuantely it totally went out on us, but if we ever have the money again, we'd get another one that's been restored. I love the style/design on the cars of the 1970's and 1980's

I am so sorry to hear that this will be your last excursion for this summer, I do hope however you can take advantage of it again come next year. I know things are difficult and money is hard to come by now a days. But it's priceless to see the expression on our kids face and husband as well as they have fun and enjoy the time away.
I know I responded a bit late, I am just trying to play catch up with my friends discussions, it's been a terrible two weeks. But I hope that you all enjoy yourselves if you haven't done so already...
HAVE LOTS OF FUN!!!

Oh, doncha worry, my friend, we're still having lots of fun, well, er, as much fun as Mother Nature will allow us to!
Every fine day we go out biking or walking or whatever we can do within bike/walking distance, and we plan on taking a day-long bus trip to a beach sometime soon, perhaps this Saturday if we get some sunshine, that is.
