Bible reader or not, what can you say about the Bible? You know I came from a Catholic family, we have a bible but I don't read them that much and I am not interested. Later, I just read some passages from Psalm and since then I enjoyed reading the Bible, then we became Christian. After that I was able to read the whole Bible. It is full of fascinating facts which I did not know before until the time I had the desire to finish it. Are you amazed by the Bible? Is it sometimes boring or unrealistic? Do you think the Bible's teachings are practical?

The Bible is the book that we all should read every day. Once we understand it and live by it, we will see that it has the solution to all our problems. It contains the wisdom to bring world peace, end food shortages, improve our health, and make us happier. It is one of the great gifts that YHWH (Yahweh) gave mankind! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Common English Bible (CEB) 16 Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17 so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.

Thanks a lot, I also believe in what you say. It is a great book and I wonder why other people are missing their chance to enjoy reading it everyday.

The answer is very simple: not everyone has faith and not everyone loves God, their neighbors or even themselves. But we don't have to follow the crowd, we can choose to be different. We will benefit and never regret doing the right thing. All the best Avery!

I always write before any religious reply that I do not wish to offend anyone, just stating my opinion. I just feel that the Bible can be confusing and there are different versions. I truly feel that Bible is the one of the Books of God but I also believe it has been changed, if you will, at the hands of human beings over the centuries..

But do you really think that the Almighty God would allow his word to be changed so much that a sincere person would not be able to see his message for his children?

well it is still very strong the message in the Bible, but there are different versions, which leads me to believe it was corrupted by men. As a muslim, I believe in ALL of the Books of Allah (c.c) but I believe the last one sent is the newest one so I follow the Holy Quran. Which is truly uncorrupted by any man.

Hi averygirl, I have been reading the Bible for sixty years and I still find it fascinating but I do not and could never take it literally. To do so makes no sense at all. The churches came up with the idea that it was the inspired word of God because there is so much there that they cannot explain. Some refuse to read the Bible at all and leave it up to their Pastor or the church to explain. As a child I was encouraged to read the Bible and I still do so today. While there are things there that I don't agree with, I realize that it was meant for a time when people thought very differently from today. No church, Priest or Pastor tells me what to accept or not accept as I have a clear mind and can decide for myself. Blessings.

Before I was a catholic I did not have time to read the bible but I know that it is very Holy. I want to read the whole scriptures of the bible but many worldly things hinder me from reading it. Now with the new religion I have we are told to read our book more than the bible. But I have a very strong faith that i have to read the bible more than any book.

Your gut feeling is right. The Bible should be read every day. It only takes a few minutes to read a chapter or two. And a few minutes to meditate on what you read and what it tells you about God. Once you get going, you may find what a fascinating book it is. It is one of the great gifts our generous Father has given us.

That is true. There are a lot of things that take us away from reading it. That is why it is important to make a habit of reading it everyday. It is really a fascinating book.

I'm not a regular reader of the bible but I view of it as a source of knowledge, the advisor when I have problems or whenever I'm down. I think it has all the answers to all the negative things I feel. I also came from a Catholic family. The Bible is really amazing especially if you happen to read a verse and suddenly you realize it connects to your situation, that always amazes me!

Great answer! That is my opinion too. It is so good to find verses that connects or relates to our situation.

I used to be baptist and didn't too much care for reading the bible at first. I first began reading psalms and that was my favorite book until I was introduced to the book of revelation and completely fell in love with it. Now I read it daily and it seems that when I read it in the morning before I do anything, my whole day goes a lot smoother than what it normally would. It may sound a little crazy, but I am bipolar and don't take any medicine for it, but the more I read the bible and trust in God and his teachings that are display and explained in the bible, the more control that I have over being bipolar. My bipolar disorder doesn't even affect as much anymore because of my faith and trust in God.

Hi, averygirl72 Yes, the Bible is an amazing book, or more correctly a library with many books. I have been reading it for many years, but am still learning more and more. We find a lot of practical advice there, and it shows so many qualities of our Creator that we learn to love Him from all our heart. I have started some discussions about Bible books and hope to continue to highlight interesting verses. There are many who are interested in the Bible here in myLot, so it is a great place for discussing this interesting subject.

Hi averygirl72. I believe in the teachings of the Bible. The Bible teaches the ways of God, the way God want us to be, the way to eternal life. It gives us laws to live by. It lets us know that even though we are not perfect and we are sinners but all and all our God still loves us and will forgive us of our sins. It is not boring to me. I enjoy reading it and I read it often. I have different versions of the Bible. I have a study Bible also. And of course I search different hard to answer questions on the internet.

There are two things, specific things, that always tend to blow my mind about the Bible. First, it is amazing how often the Bible says something about how to live life, and immediately I can think of people who don't do what it says, and are having huge problems. The Bible is amazingly practical in my mind. For example Proverbs 16:28 says “a perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends” And then I end up meeting people exactly like that. People who literally enjoy stirring up problems, and separating friends. Now of course I don't go running around "Hey! You are in the Bible! Look right here!" But I do realize just how practical, and applicable to everyday life the Bible really is. It really is the User Manual for Human living. The other thing that gets me, is the prophecies. No other book has so many accurate, and detailed prophecies as the Bible. Not some vague, nebulous prediction that can be re-interpreted a 100 times until something happens that could be considered an answer. No, the land of Israel will be given back to the Jews. It was. The people of Israel will be in conflict, and will defeat their enemies repeatedly. They have. They will become very power, and a terrible swift sword. The Six day war, in which Israel defeated absolutely every country around them. The enemies of Israel will flee from them, 100 fleeing from 10, 1000 from 100, and 10,000 fleeing from 1,000. Egypt retreated from Israel, even though the army of Egypt out numbered them 10 to 1. And the list of answered, or in process prophesies, goes on and on. No book is this accurate at predicting future events, than the Bible. None comes close.

I was raised Catholic. But I never was really interesting in learning anything about my religion.I went to church just because I was told. I have read a few pages of the bible but they don't make sense to me.

LIke you i am a Christian convert from Catholic. I am studying the bible but haven't really read it from cover to cover. I consider myself a baby Christian and i know i still have a lot to learn. Whenever i have questions on my mind, i resort to the bible and i can find the answers there. I am thankful.

I was a born as Catholic. But honestly I don't really read Bible that often. I do have a bible at home. Bible teachings are really factual and I really believe on it. Whatever the Bible states for me its real.

I think reading the bible is a guide to our everyday life, it's like the rules for everyone, I read one verse a day just to start my day every time I woke up, somehow helps me to face the day with positive and lighter views.

To me, it is our instruction manual and God's love letter to us. I read te Bible through about 3 times before I was out of high school. (From about age 7 to 17.) Since then, sadly, I've only read it through cover to cover twice (from 17 to 59). But I love reading it! It inspires me. It encourages me. It strengthens me and comforts me.

I think that the bible is a good starting point to look at morality and how it has changed. I do not take it literally. I have read the whole bible cover to cover and in bits and pieces too. While G*d may have given us the words, it was ultimately humans who wrote it down and later translated it, therefore it is flawed because humans are flawed. Also looking at it from a historical stand point, it is interesting to see how society changed its view points from the old testament to the new testament. The higher power went from being this scary spiteful i will ruin you to a much more gentle being.

i was raised a catholic. and i was introduced to the bible at an early age. i liked those stories in there. however, at my age, i already view the bible merely as a literary work. the stories teach positive values. but so does aesop's fables. yes, the teachings are somewhat practical. but then again, any self help book could do that. i'm not trying to disuade you, though. i'm just sharing my view.

I love to read the Bible as I am a devoit Catholic. I find it facinating as most of the issues and problems back then in the history of the Bible pertains to todays problems. Every time I pick up the Bible I learn something new. I can read a passage 10 times and not get it until one day it just dawns on me what the Bible was trying to say. As you evolve from a child to an adult you are more open to understanding abstract things such as the Bible. "when I was a child a played like a child, when I became an adult I put such childesh things and thinking behind" I would say that is true.
