As a student, have you cheated during exams?

August 1, 2011 11:12am CST
Students nowadays often cheat during tests. For them, it is better to cheat than to repeat. It is something like trying oneself to survive against the claws of having a failing grade at the end of the semester. Honesty and Integrity seem to be the thing of the past.

I have never once cheated during an exam. It is a foolish thing to do, because if you get caught you can get disqualified from not only that qualification, but from any other qualification in future. What is the point in taking a test, and cheating. If you are capable of passing, you will pass and be granted the qualification that you are able to do, but if you are unable to do it, then you should not have the qualification.

I remember during my college days i was about to cheat, had prepared my notes to be copied but the more i tried to do the more i was compelled not to do it because of guilt and the thought of being caught which would surely put me to shame.I was sure no amount of money can pay for any embarrassment brought about by cheating. And because of fear from my teacher, i ended with nothing in my paper...luckily, i didn't fail.

Hi Dear Airamtheb! I feel proud to say that I never cheated in any exam as a student! It never occurred to me that I can cheat in the examinations. During my school days I was not a very good student, just because I was not interested in studies, my interest was about everything except the studies! But even then with what ever small amount of efforts I used to put in I was comfortably get promoted to next class! So I never found it necessary to cheat in the examinations! Once having passed school, when I entered junior college and senior college I was totally a transformed person and I developed immense interest in my studies and I used to be one of the merit students in the class , so there was no point of cheating in the exam! My only concern used to maintain my rank in the class so that I should not miss my merit Scholarship and I always used to take care of this aspect! Thanks for the discussion!

I have never cheated on a test. It's just not the sort of thing that I like doing. I don't feel comfortable doing that.

I did cheated the exam sometime in high school and tried also in college. Yes i admit i did scored much higher than those who didnt cheat at all. It was somehow a great feeling to get a higher grade but at the same time you have this guilt feeling of being a cheater.

i agree with you chelly...it is the same as having plenty of money which didn't come from an honest labor. Guilt won't make you happy.

Of course I've cheated before. When I had the chance I always cheated in my exams. The tests were just too hard at the time so I had to do whatever it takes to pass them.

Yep, of course they know about it, they were also cheating too. There were some professors who knew there was cheating happening inside the class but they just ignored it. Sad thing to admit but they I think they allow it because there were a lot of students failing the class.

If there are lots of students failing in the test, then it must be the teacher's fault. Something is a mess in his teaching methods and strategies. That is why, when I give a test, I always consider the mental capacity of my students --not too hard for the average ones and not too easy for the smart ones.

did your classmates know that you have been cheating? what about your teachers?

I would hate to think that honesty is a thing of the past but i also like to believe in team work... I don't exactly want to cheat or base my studies around the fact but i have copied ansers i was having trouble with from my peers after i have tried but couldn't understand them. I have never expected someone to share all their answers with me but i would also like to help out a friend who needs the answer explained to them when they can not figure out the question on their own.

I think lots of students have cheated at some point. Yes, I cheated before on few tests in high school. When I attended 2 colleges here in US, I knew that some instructors/professors would not tolerate cheating. Some would report it to the dean or chair department. Some would cause you to be expelled from the university/college just like that. So, instead of just giving you an F or a 0, some instructors/professors go to great lengths to give you a hell. In other words, cheating just few words or few lines is such a big deal like stealing lots of properties.

Most of us I believe have actually cheated during exams while we’re still students. But I admire those who doesn't even once. There were just times before that my time isn’t enough to study well because you have projects, assignments, thesis, reports, presentations, etc. As much as possible I don’t want to resort to that but we just can’t help it when we are already in a state of crisis.

It may be embarrassing but yes, I did in my school days.It wasn't all about getting the correct answer but sometimes it's about camaraderie. You may think it's kinda lame excuse but yes, that's what it is way back before.

some kind of peer pressure Sam?
1 Aug 11
yes a lot of times since when i was in grade school until college. my friends and classmates named me "the cheat master" LOL! im not soo studious during my school days thats why i often cheat at my seat mate. i often got caught ( just a minor cheating like peeking or turning my head a little) and reprimanded by my instructors before but never been kicked out or called for suspension because of some of my cheating skills.
1 Aug 11
it is quite a feat for you to do that and having such title is not quite to be proud of...what about if you have a child who turns out to be a cheater too and being a parent your attention has been called by the school because he is to be suspended?

Well you see if your not ashamed to do things, continue doing them. If you feels its right, do it. If you feels its wrong, your right. Me i went through high school cheating my way to senior year, then i finally studied. I was busy making friends haha. I cheated on exams and didnt feel guilty one bit, so i continued. Dont get caught, if you do then stop. Your not a cheater if you get caught....

I hadn't cheated on exams when I was a students.I knew some of the students did it. They didin't listened to the professor in the class, and they didn't read books after the class. But they wanted to pass the exam at the end of the semester. So they had to cheat. I could understand them. But that was not good.

No, I have never cheated whenever I sat for my examinations. I still never do that even if I am taking distance learning programs. I think it's important not to cheat and it's also fair to other students, in a way. I remember way back in school, some of my friends had cheated. They had the sources for the papers in advance of the examination, but that students had to pay a sum to get access to the papers. Anyways, a bunch of them forked out some money and bought different papers and they'd then photocopy the papers only to be shared among them. Like if there 8 subjects, they'd buy them all and divided the costs among themselves and then photocopied those papers. I didn't want to participate anyways and i have to say, I wasn't very good at a few of those subjects yet I had the determination in me to just aim for something which will be a part of an achievement for me, rather than to cheat my way to the top. Fortunately, I didn't fail in any of those subjects but at least, till today, I'm just happy and proud that I did something that I gained from all of my hard work. Honesty and integrity is very important. Things that I had to learn are the things I had to bring with me to the present and the future and those things cannot be compared to cheating.

Honestly I never did! I was in the honor roll list and it was all because I worked hard for it. I never cheated because each time examination day comes, I would arrive in the class ready and prepared. I would wake up at dawn to review and so I need not cheat. Cheating does not pay. Even if the teacher could not see, God sees! So I am proud to say that I never was among the cheaters in class.

Back in our college days, we really can't cheat during our exams be it in quizzes or long exams. There are only a few of us in our batch, that's why the teacher can easily caught someone if he or she is cheating. We were usually two sits apart from our seatmate usually left and right, back and front. In our answer sheets we were required to write the names of our seatmate on the left, right, back and front. Hence it's pretty hard to cheat during those days and so it's better to study hard.

You find cheating all over but it was still a shock to me that my new(university) had so much cheating going on. Being the foreign student they saw me and the other foreigns as strange not cheating.I'M A LITTLE CHICKEN WHEN COMES TO CHEATING.I always feel the one time I do it I'll get caught, but if a friend needs help and I know without my help they could fail- I may more risk it to help them than to ask a question myself. I make sure to study.

I have never cheated during college days. I see to it that I study before the scheduled exams. Honesty is always the best policy.Integrity comes with honesty. Solid values inculcated in the younger years can help one stand temptations because the conscience is well-formed. Honesty and integrity is not a thing of the past but a stance that could gain you respect and trust.
