Too many interests

Howdy and hello. It seems to me that there are far too many interest groups with so many of them being duplicated in purpose as well as many being duplicated in name. Is there a way that MyLot provides us to affect these things? I haven't found a way to set up a poll or other way to collect votes as of yet but maybe I missed it. I really think that creating a new interest group should be done so much as it seems to have been done and that maybe a better option would be to submit ideas for new interest to MyLot and have staff make sure it would not be duplicating something already in place. Most of my interests have to do with earning income, working from home and online business. I only went 10 pages deep when adding those and found that so many of the interest I picked have had no activity in weeks if not months. This may be and seems to be that many new users just create an interest without really looking to see if there is already one that matches the one they want to create. The problem with how it seems to be that I see is that when you have so many duplicate interests then it becomes more difficult to follow them without adding many duplicates. You can't as easily reach a target audience with so many duplicates because many people subscribe to the first couple that match a topic of interest while many older members aren't subscribing to the newer ones. Just seems there is room for MyLot to improve things here. Do you agree? how can we as a community let MyLot know how we feel other than individual feedback through a contact form?

This is EXACTLY the argument I had on the site a few months back, and why it took me so long to start posting here. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the way the interests are grouped. I reckon there must be nearly as many interests as there are members! I suggest you contact GoAskAlice in admin. Not sure how you do that, but he/she is the one who chases up things like this. Welcome to mYlot, anyway!

Thanks for the welcome :) You may be right, there may be nearly as many interest as people or maybe even more interest than people!!! I am off to find this Alice now, thanks again.

GoAskAlice will be aware of this this discussion (and the other one) because he has been notified. This topic was raised, I believe, about a year ago in one of GoAskAlice's discussions (I think she was a girl then ... not that it matters) and I believe that the comment was that it was 'too difficult' to sort and regularise the Interests. I don't know how the MyLot database is structured but, apart from it being a LOT of work to create a new structure and to make sure that no discussions were 'orphaned', I can't see that it would be impossible to do. Whether MyLot would consider it economic, of course, is quite another matter. As it stands, the 'Interest' structure is quite a pretty mess!

A while back I had to do a load of blogs on MDM (master data management) and this kind of thing comes up all the time. I'd have thought simplifying and amalgamating the various interest sections would be a fairly easy task with the right software - and no posts would need to be lost, either. Maybe it could be put up for grabs in the Tasks section?

I agree, there are many similar posts under the same interests. Best would be to search for that certain topic to find out if someone before has already brought it up for discussion. But I think we are spontanous and write straight out what's in our minds. At least I do very often.

It may also be that this is part of the intent of myLot. To allow so much freedom in these things to encourage us to create more discussions under many different but similar interest. How they help us to help them with creating content. Just a thought.

yes. For Internet we have more than two three places where it is discussed. sometimes they have the same picture also. I thought all of them well grouped under one. Ok. if this is the case let variety be a cause of happiness for all. More interests, more discussions, more participation, more activity in mylot and mylot gets bigger and bigger in terms of quality, quantity etc.
