Should facebook really use the word "friends"? I have lots of so called friends in facebook but not all of them are my true friends if you get my drift. how about you guys? doyouthink it's proper that facebook is using the word "friends" to call people you are connected with within facebook?

I Have over 2600 Facebook Friends.. I would have to say only 1 or 2% of them would be True Friends and/or Relatives. Maybe another 1 or 2% that are acquaintances that I may have met years ago or gone to school with but haven't interacted with in years but at least can say i still personally KNOW them.. All the rest are online "friends" and Only a few percent again are ones that I interact with a lot and actually have a lot in common with and wouldn't mind maybe someday meeting them and getting to know them better.

That's a pretty deep question. but, you may have a point. Maybe we should call them "Connections".

would you say that it's improper to use the word "friends" in such a careless way? a lot of social networking sites use the word friends. can't they think of a better word? just a thought... =)

I have over 3,000 facebook friends. I know about a dozen in real life and another dozen from networking. Most are only on my friends list for games. I actually have a lot of friends who I don't like. Their content is blocked from my wall.

Wow! 3000 facebook friends? And I thought 400 was a lot... Hmm... That's a good idea.. Maybe I should start sorting out "friends" whose contents I want to block.

All of my friends in Facebook are my actual friends. I mean I met them personally already. Most of them are family, school mates, co workers, colleagues but I've been with them that's why I know them.

I have two friends on Facebook plus a multitude of others in my friend list. I wish I can call them as friends but what kind of friends who don't add a comment on your posts? In this case, I don't communicate with them about anything, I would rather post whatever I have on twitter- somehow friendly and with serious people. Facebook should look for another word to replace 'friends', I think the better one like in twitter 'following' or just webbed.

hi waflay! i have lots of "friends" on facebook as well but like you, most of them are just acquaintances. i am in good terms with all of them. i just think that it's improper to use such a heavy word carelessly. you're right. followers on twitter is okay.

don't you think it would be better if we have the option classify them? friends, acquaintances, relatives, colleagues, and the like. just so we don't diminish the value of the word friend. just a thought. =)

I have a total of 250 friends in total. I don't add someone I don't know unless they add me. But these "Friend seeker" Who likes to compete on how many friends they have keep adding me when I have 1 mutual friend of his.
