Volunteering: Ideas to get teenagers involved?

United States

This household has a 14 and a 16 year old and most places do not like non-adult volunteers. Other than church groups, anyone have any good ideas for teenage volunteers? Thanks beforehand, THE Ever-lovin' Rat

IN our area there are 2 places that encourage teenage participation, most Food Banks are only to happy to get teenaged volunteers. Also, Food bank vegetable gardens (Often situated in the city centre) are always looking for teenagers to plant and care for the gardens, as well as harvesting them each week.

Hi there! Dunno about your country, but here the schools collaborate with center for state forest management to bring children closer to the nature. One or two times a year children have a chance to attend forest planting events. They receive a day off at school and are taken to the planting site. They are given all the tools needed and after a hard work they are rewarded with memorabilia and a nice meal in fresh air. In my opinion it's a very neat and eco-friendly program. Perhaps you have such programs too in your country? I think your children would like to attend such events. There are really many children attending these events annually in our country.

Is there a Community Centre where you are living ? If so, that could be a good place. I am a member of the Community Centre of the community I am living in in the city. There are a number of activities of the community for which the Centre needs volunteers. Those are excellent opportunities for teenagers to participate.
