I was thinking of selling some items online. I found a perfect website to get my items from. I was thinking of using ebay to selling some products, unless anyone has any opinion on another website similar to Ebay. I am not to sure about making my own website to sell items. Has anyone ever made their own website to sell products if so how didi it work out for you? Do you think this can make good money or will it be a waste of time and money?

The first step of selling product online is to find a market niche that is performing well. Once you have a market and niche within that market you can start to consider how to market a product or service. HINT: Market would be like health, a niche in that market would be like weight loss. Assuming the product you found to work with is fairly priced, well received and likely to perform well, then its time to consider how to market that product. I think eBay is one approach but it can be difficult to use eBay, if you already know how to use eBay effectively then you are one step up on your business. Selling from websites can work great if you know what you are doing. Getting a domain, finding a web hosting service and putting it all together is rather easy to do, even without any understanding of how to create websites as there are scripts you can get that do most of the hard stuff for you. The problem with a website is that you need get traffic and not just any traffic. Driving customers to your product may be easier with eBay but upfront listing fees make for a risk that you should consider before choosing that option. Making a website can be a lot cheaper where a domain cost 10.00 per year and hosting it can be as little as 5.00 per month or even less. Getting traffic to your website will either cost you time and a be slow or cost you money and be faster but then you are risking more money upfront. Many people use eBay to help sell products but also have a website. From eBay its possible to drive traffic to your website to some extent and is helpful. My best advice is to start with what you know or start with what is easiest for you to learn but use both options as quickly as you can. If you do choose to use a website and cannot afford traffic you should not expect sales before you have spent 6 months to a year in marketing that website. Buying traffic can be very costly but if your know what you are doing it can deliver results in a few weeks. Have I ever sold product on eBay or using a website? No. I have worked with others using websites and seen many do well. I favor the long term approach of a website and recommend using eBay to "extra sales" as well as a method to help drive traffic. In either case, using social networking sites like Facebook, myLot and any others you can think of will help get sales.
