I am disabled but able to take care of my child and others. Now I am trying to figure out if it would be beneficial to my family to baby sit my niece for 600 a month. She is 18 months old and I was going to do preschool with her too. Now with my colitis and fibromyalgia etc. is it fair for me to do so and what would ssd think of this too. I don't want to cheat the system here, but I need the money. I do get sick a WHOLE lot but the parents are ok with that saying that it would be good for me. what do you think?

I think that if the parents understand your situation, and you know yourself your own limitations, and they still want to leave their daughter in your care, then you should! SSD aside, $600 is still $600. And it could go a long way in terms of paying some bills.

I think that with your illnesses you need to be as busy as you can possibly be. I understand that energy is not great but I think that you will find it increases with the demand. I have had fibromyalgia for many years and as long as I plan rest times I can work full time and my yoga helps with the pain. I have also found that taking time for tapping each day helps with both the rest and the pain. So as long as you can manage your time there should be no reason why you can't do this job. Give it a fair chance and then review your plan. Blessings

I would check, but I believe you can earn up to a certain amount before SSD gets upset... I've heard 700 bandied around...

I think it is ok. It is not like you are ripping anyone off. As long as you can handle baby sitting a little girl for a long time then sure go for it.

If you are able to take care of your neice I say go for it. I think that government assistance let you make a certain amount of money. You are still a young person even if you do have certain medical conditions and you should have the energy to look after an 18 month old. I am seeking to find some ways to make a little extra money myself, however I really don't have the energy to look after a toddler. I have an 18 month old greatgrand son and he is too much for me to handle. May God be with you in whatever you decide.

I agree with stowyk, only you can determine if you are able to do this. Maybe see if you can do a trial run, for a few days or weeks, to see if you are up to it. That way you have not committed if it is too much or you will realize you are strong enough to do it and you can continue..:)
