By now my friends here in mylot already know that I'm very fond of chatting with different people everyday using different modes of IMs, from Skype to BBM, to LiveProfile, Whatsapp, Kakao talk, etc. Oh and i even chat on twitter! I consider this a very good learning experience since most of the people i talk to everyday are from different countries like India, Egypt, Canada, Australia, the USA and England. As an English teacher i need to hone my skills in spoken as well as written English. Almost everyday i learn the different English expressions that i don't normally use in my own version of spoken English. I usually use the American English but nowadays i get to learn a lot of slang words from British English. And the word for the day is Crikey!

prefer brits over their yankee counterparts eh? anyway, let no nationality accuse me of racism. lol! maybe we can get together and start a thread writing down all the nasty names we can use in different languages. we can count vulgar expressions as well.

I love the British accent as well! But since i grew up using American English expressions, some British expressions and idioms are so alien to me. Bugger! But now it's like i'm learning again! And this gets me so excited. Blue sky thinking!

Hi Toni I just cannot believe it Tony that you are so much active and get to talk (read chat) to so many people around the Globe. I am in agreement with you that talking with others do brush up our English and we get to learn a lot. I also believe in this principle that when we talk with friends from our countries, we always learn a lot of new thins. Many thanks for teaching us a new word 'Crikey'. I did not know its meaning, however, now I have come to know that it is equivalent of 'Blimey' or 'Struth' or 'wow', which means exclamation of surprise or bewilderment.

I must say that I like your hobby, toniganzon, talking to people all over the globe has got to be interesting. Mylots fills that niche for me; here I meet people from all over too. I dare say that I am not brave enough to talk face-to-face with my online friends; afraid it might change their opinions of me. A lot of people online tend to be younger but words are ageless, and I am comfortable letting them be in the forefront. Crikey! You're a brave one, you are.

Thank you Roberten! I believe so i am brave when it comes to talking to foreign people but sometimes i do get scared. When i talk to people from a very conservative country with a strong cultural belief, sometimes i'm scared of offending them. So usually i try to avoid talking to people who are very sensitive when it comes to their cultural background.

Thanks for the word. I've increased my vocabulary. I just read that the etymological meaning of the word is Christ. Isn't?
