Is there a shampoo or soap that doesn't make bubbles?

My grand daughter is slightly autistic and she can't STAND a bath or shower. She can swim and be in the water all day long, but when it comes to a shower, she scrams like I am killing her! It is the soap and shampoo. As soon as she see the bubbles, she starts to beat up the shower, kicking and slapping it. She has also tried to climb up in the corners of the shower or grab the bar and pull herself up trying to get away from me washing her. She is 7 years old and also hearing impaired. I am so afraid that she is going to fall and get hurt. I have tried to let her do it herself, and she will not even spray herself down in the shower and her parents have the same problem with the tub at home. So, is there a shampoo and soap that does not suds up? Thanks so much in advance.

Little girl! It sounds a little bit strange to me. I don't know actually. But I think there might exist some. Good luck to you.

All children with Autism just have their "thing" that sets them off, bubbles on her body or hair is just "her" thing. I had a hard time, but I got her to wash dishes once with a lot of telling her that she could do it. It was funny because she kept trying to move the bubbles out of the way with a spoon to put her hand in the water. She will wash her hands, just don't lather it up a lot.

I am really not sure but I have read once that bubbles are responsible for the cleaning power. Say for example laundry soaps--the more the bubbles the softer the lather and the more it has cleansing properties. But I would hope that you could find a product that produces less bubbles. And I hope your grand daughter will just get used to it soon. Or maybe you could try lactacyd. I can remember it does not produces bubbles. It might be good for her hair as well. Poor little girl. She shouldn't be running around in the bathroom or she might slip. Just be careful you two.

She stays in the shower area, but oh my goodness, she has been doing this for years! At 2 1/2 years old, the first time I got to get her for the summer, she scratched my chest area really deep with her nails. I have had my hair pulled and I don't wear my glasses anymore because she would pull them off. There is just something about a bath and shower with the Autism that she hates the bubbles. My neighbors thought that it would be nice to fill up their little pool with bubbles and she had a total breakdown over me just trying to get her to try getting into the pool. Thanks for your response.

No I really don't know of any that don't bubble. I think that it is important for soap to bubble so that it cleans better. I think that you might be able to try regular soap as it would not bubble as much as the shower gels do. I wish you the best of luck in this as she could easily get hurt doing things like this.

I don't think there's a soap that doesn't produce any bubbles. Although I used to use this body wash that doesn't make that much bubbles and it also smelled good. I think it's for adults but maybe you can find one for kids.

Try to use a hypo-allergenic soap like dove because it has low content of sodium lauryl sulfate which is a reactive compound that causes too much bubbles and skin irritation.

There are some out there. The majority of the time, the bubbles are created by an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, or sodium lareuth sulfate. This addictive causes questionable side effects after prolonged use, so some companies make shampoos and body washes without them. Most of the time, these products are organic and cost more. I have a shampoo called "Hair One" that doesn't create bubbles. I bought it from Sally's beauty store. It has all natural ingredients and my hair feels so soft after I wash with it. Here are a list of some shampoos without the sls. Chances are they won't create bubbles, but you might want to read reviews to see if people mention it. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/sls-free-shampoo-list.html

Thanks so much. I am also going to pass this list on to my neighbor because they like organic things. I will check out this list and see what I can do. She goes back home Sunday for the school year, but I can check out the items myself and see how they work before she gets here next year.
