According to experts there is no such thing as overuse. But reading for long hours, watching television excessively, or working in poor light can result in eyestrain. This is fatigue of the eye muscles. Rarely, such strain maybe the sign of a serious condition that requires medical attention. Good lighting helps to prevent eyestrain.
So, we have to remember that we need sufficient lighting especially when we are using the computer.

Thank you for the tip, people with good eyesight should take care of their eyes. I was born with Astigmatism so I have been wearing glasses since I can remember. The sad part about that is that it continues to worsen until I reach my adult age where it will stay still on a certain grade. My eyes are really bad without glasses, I wish that one day I could see without wearing them but I think that will just be a dream.

Just eat the most nutritious foods because it will really help you with your eyes or some supplements like lutein that is especially good for your eyes so it will not worsen. I am sure your doctor gave you some vitamins for that. I'm sorry to hear that. It must be hard wearing glasses all the time. Take care.

Thank you very much for the adverse.Yes, spending too much time in front of the computer effects the eye-sight. I have been wearing eye-glasses for many years now, since my college years. I noticed that my eye-sight was getting weak when I wasn't able to see the letters on the blackboard very clearly. That's where it started.

Yeah. A lot of people nowadays have poor eyesight. There was a report that because of computer use of children spending too much time playing bat the computers are victimized by eye problems at an early age. And many internet cafes don't observe proper lighting. I always take care of my eyes because I will need it more when I am old.

Correct! We can also lessen the eyestrain by putting those radiation filtering devise in our laptops. Me, i think it's my reading glass in addition to the devise that keeps my eyes in check always.

I guess anything done excessively can be a disaster later. Reading doesn't weaken your eyesight, but improper reading techniques and environment can. Eye strain is the main concern in reading or watching or using the computer. Due to this, proper eye care and eye strain prevention is important if you don't want to lose your eyes. The best thing to do while on the computer is getting an eye friendly monitor for your computer and wearing anti glare glasses. Also, as you have mentioned, sufficient lighting is important while reading and avoid reading in moving vehicles. I do suggest also relaxing your eyes every now and then to prevent eye strain. closing it or doing naps is a great reliever for the eyes. Also looking at something green is a nice eye refresher. Enough sleep is always critical to help rest the eyes.

Thank you. Those are such very, very important points. Such very informative and valuable information. I have also even read and just remembered that the height of the chair where you sit when your are facing the computer has got something to do with the agreeable level between the computer and the eyes so that we don't get eyestrain. A lot of things does matter. We just need to observe as much as we can to save our eyes from straining and getting hurt.

Yes, that is true. I have been using eyeglasses for I think 4 years or so. You should read or use your eyes on a well-lighted room/place. Learn to take a break if your reading/watching television for a long-time time. You can look at green objects specially plants to rest your eyes. You can also close and open your eyes repeatedly to "exercise" it. :)
