I have observed that here in the Philippines, whitening soap is so popular specially to ladies. I too, have used a whitening soap for quite sometime, but it didn’t make my skin fair . Besides, it made my skin dry even if I put lotion every after bathing. Luckily though, I am of fair skin. So, I stopped using it, and instead use a moisturizing soap. That way, even my husband who don’t like to use lotion , have a nicely moisturized skin too. We now use an anti-aging moisturizing soap.

While on vacation I had the chance to chat with this British guy and he told me about a time when he and his girlfriend were in the Philippines and they went to a convenience store to buy some soap. They found rows of whitening soap and lotions. Being already very fair, the girlfriend didn't want to purchase any of those products. They laughed about how back in Britain, the stores are lined with tanning soaps. Our brown skin receives many compliments from foreigners. However, many still want to be really white and fair. I did use whitening products for a certain time. I don't believe they made me whiter but I think they helped maintain my current skintone. On a side note, I find it funny how on TV these whitening products are endorsed by people who are already naturally very fair, say, Lucy Torres.

Right. We people often want things we don't have, failing to appreciate what we have that other people appreciate in us.

Yes, they have it endorsed by already fair skinned people. They may fool those ignorant people but not us. I think, what makes those morena skinned Filipinas like to have whiter skin, is because they are used to being that , so they want to be fairer for a change.

Maybe it's the thought of having a new look, entices them to try new things. That's why morena or tanned persons specially women would usually want to be fair skinned also.

I prefer using moisturizing soap too here in our household. Our skin is so dry after if it is not miosturizing soap. I have yet to find anti aging moisturizing soap for me. Thanks for the mentioning that

We have been using Olay's Anti-Aging soap, and it's very good. You can really feel the moisturizer. I would put it on, and leave it while i do some washing of the undies. That way, it gets to stay a bit longer on the skin. Sad, that last week there wasn't any stock anymore in two supermarket i went to. I just contented myself with their new one, but it's not as good as the anti-aging. I would still look again for that anti-aging kind.

We have tried using Dove too. But still, we find Olay really better when it comes to its moisturizing effect.

I heard the skin lightening soaps have a long time effect on the skin and would destroy the skin over time. Also, it could darken the skin even more if you stop using it after a while. I would advice not to use such products because they have some harmful chemicals associated with them.

That's true. Those whitening soap may have some natural products in them, but they still have some other chemicals to make them stronger and effective. I think when you have been using them and stopped already, exposing yourself to the sun would make your skin even darker when you weren't using it yet. Some actors ans actresses were using glutathione pills instead, but that too is i think harmful.

I have never personally heard of whitening soap. I normally utiilize a moisturizing soap, I don't have dry skin, but I like the way it makes my skin feel after a shower. My hubby uses his own soap, so I really don't have to worry about him using mine.

I think in the country where you are living, it is not heard of, because the people are born with fair skin. Thus, this whitening soap is common mostly in Asian countries only. Because they weren't born with fair skin , they want to experience having a fairer skin too.

I guess everyone here in the Philippines have tried using a whitening soap. Some would along the way stop it when they realize it's not giving them a nice result.

HI!~ Color of our skin is depends upon pigments. Soap companies exploit those people who want to get fairer and fairer and their products sell like hot cakes. These kinds of soaps or lotion etc. are just an eye wash and they do not actually change color of our skin.

Eye wash? Well, to some it may be effective , with the help of some sloughing tools and a bit of protection from the sun , it could be attained. But i guess it would take a lifetime to do that.

i personally think it is sad that women think lighter skin is better. i personally am light skinned, but i don't see myself as any more beautiful than anyone else. i do think i am beuatiful, just not because of my complexion. i'm sure your skin is beautiful the way it is and i am glag that you don't use the soap anymore :)

I realized i am not dark skinned to be wanting to have a fair skin. Besides, i don't like how it makes my skin dry.

There are a lot of whitening soaps appearing from papaya soap to gluthathione soap. I used Likas papaya before but the soap can melt easily. I'm also now using an antibacterial soap followed by moisturizing soap. Bath gels are also my favorite specially those from the Body Shop.

So, can you say that the whitening soap did whiten your skin?
