Today, August 9,2011 is National Rice Pudding Day. I really don't know who comes up with these wacky holidays, but this is a fun one. I love rice pudding and although my family won't eat rice pudding, I did have tapioca pudding today and we had rice with our dinner. I served it with my stuffed green peppers. Do you like rice pudding and if so, how do you make it?

I like it but I have no idea how to make it. Now if they come up with a national strawberry shortcake day...I would really be in..lol
I only have rice pudding if we are having a babyshower or some type of potluck dinner at work. I never really had it growing up. I get it sometimes if we go to a buffet to eat and it happens to be there.

I say that we start a national strawberry shortcake day! Sounds like a delicious day to me! I love strawberry shortcakes!!
I never had rice pudding much when we grew up except at my grandma's house.

I think that's hilarious, National Rice Pudding Day and I'm both sorry that I missed it and that we didn't seem to have it here in the UK. I'm very lazy so tend to use canned rice pudding, but when I was a child my mum made a great one. She'd use half ordinary milk and half evaporated milk, simmer the rice with some sugar slowly in the oven, then sprinkle it with nutmeg about halfway through the cooking time. Sometimes she'd put a handful of dried fruit in it before cooking, instead of sugar, to sweeten it. I also eat a lot of rice with my savoury meals too....I tend to use arborio or basmati rice, and make up a pot of it mixed with onions and various other chopped vegetables - sometimes I'll put some chopped ham or bacon in too, and it's fine to eat just on its own or as an accompaniment to something else.

Yes, rice is a versatile food that can be eaten in many ways. I like it cooked several ways and we like it with cheese and broccoli too. I like the idea of adding bacon to it.

I love rice pudding too. But I'm the only one in my family who does. I remember the first time I had it was at Furr's Cafeteria. Do you remember that chain? I don't seem them around anymore. But I was attracted to it because of the whip cream and cherry on top of the rice pudding. But when I had it I fell in love with the taste of the pudding! Now I just buy some at the supermarket on occasion. Kozy Shack makes some great rice pudding, and the fat and calorie content is low.

I do not remember that chain. I make my own rice pudding usually. I tend to be the only one in my house to eat it too. It is such a healthy snack for me as I try not to make it too sweet!
