You might have realized that you deserve a raise in payment. May be you need hte money. We must discuss and learn how to request a pay raise. Before asking for raise, you must make sure that you deserve it. We must be confident and you must overcome any reluctance you may have about asking a raise. Employees sometimes just accept the measly 2 percent increase at their annual review because they are too afraid to stand up for themselves. You should not be, If you know you deserve it, go for it.

Hi, Tenrajj, Of course one should stand up for themselves. On the positive side, the person can get the raise he wants and be happy. On the negative side, the person can get axed on a very short notice and end up crying. This is very true in the private sector, when the companies do not even show a proper reason to fire someone. Where it is this tough to just keep your job, by doing your work, I hardly doubt if someone would really want to stand up for a little raise. There is smart and careful and then there is just plain stupid and brave.

You are right and seem to be a very idealist kind of a guy. I have a very close friend who is kind of like you and he is so upset with our country and the companies exploiting their employees that he has gone into research and wants to study his whole life. Anyways, back on the topic, most people do not have the luxury to switch jobs just because they do not like the boss. And as far as I have heard from others, bosses are not actually that good when it comes to listening to employees about raise in salary. So people do not have much options even if they deserve an appreciation for their hard work and accomplishments.

Yes, it seems true regarding leaving a switching a job just because they did not like the boss. When we go for other job, the interviewer there may ask about the past job and if he comes to know about the reason why I have quit the previous job, then I think he won't consider me to be a good employee irrespective of my experiences and qualifications. That is why we must always be careful while asking for pay raise and follow proper tend.

As I said we must always be sure that we deserve it before we request a raise. If they fire us for the request, then I won't consider the boss or that person at all a good person. We are not making a claim or not ordering. We are requesting with full confidence that we deserve. If there is such boss, then I would immediately leave the company or job. Of course we must think of honest reason that would make these authorities consider giving you an increase in pay. Self presentation is important. We must be straight forward. You must mention about your accomplishments and dedication. We must have patience. We must give them time for evaluation. We should not rush for the answer.

I would just like to get paid period for my research. I am working an unpaid internship with a Pasadena biotech company and a biology lab on campus. I just hope I can get good references from this and perhaps my name in a reputable journal. I want to be published so bad and research has not always gone well, but this summer my hypothesis has so far proven to be correct! Now need more data. I guess I can get paid once I graduate.

You must get paid for what you do. Otherwise how you are gonna survive. You must have courage to ask for payment. The first step you must take before requesting the payment is the courage. A lot of times people are nervous and hesitant about approaching their higher authorities at the workplace. Hope you are not so. Keep positive thoughts about yourself and your skills as you seems to be reading through your response. All the best!

As the costs of everything raises there should be a raise in the employee payroll. When the wages or salaries are increased then automatically the other things are also becoming costlier. However if a worker does more than the work he shold do or is really a desrvving candidate then he can ask for his raise of pay.

if an employer is really working hard enough and is deserving then the management itself will be ready to give a higher position,if not then the employer should see a better position in some other company and leave.

hi,tenrajj, nice to see you again,i find that your post is always interesting and meaningful. my company is a enterprise called state owned in china not belong to individual, and employees' payment has a special system. the financail department gives employee salary according to the real working quantities except the system which may contain the degree or length of service something like that. what i am trying to express is requesting a pay raise is useless in my company especially stated owned even you deserve it. that's the real condition.

Hi tenrajj :) Of course, employees should be paid higher as time goes by. Our "talent fees" have higher value as you stay longer with an employer. It will give you more work experience thus having appropriate higher fee. On the other hand, one must prove first that he/she deserves that raise. I don't think any employer will raise you up if you have not learned or improved since you started the job. We, employees, should stand for ourselves and have the courage to ask for a raise only if we think we deserve it. If we thin we deserve it, then we should defend it. Any concerns can be done in a nice conversation. So, just be polite and honest at the same time and your employer will most likely grant your request. :)

You are very right. I appreciate your points and I would have been very happy if you have stated some ways to request pay raise. Some tips that will let our payment raise. I think we must stay clam when talking to our employer. It is important to produce evidence of your success in the workplace when your employers asks why you want a raise. This is when you take our your notepad with the list of your accomplishment.
