I have seen shows on how serious lack of sleep can be for your health. I think experts have reccommended 7-8 hours a night. Apparently you can't really catch up on your sleep debt, but the longer you go without sleeping enough, the worst it is for your health and mind. I try and aim for 7 hours, I think 8 is optimum, but I often get far less than 7 as I got to sleep late and usually someone wakes me up by being noisy. Have you ever notices effects on yourhealth or your thinking when you haven't slept enough?

i find, nowadays, that if i have about six and a half hours sleep i can function well the next day, but that is pretty much the minimum, anything less than that and i am just too tired to do anything useful. anything above that i see as a bonus, but i find i can manage ok on six and a half. the trouble with sleep is that its quite likely that we keep ourselves awake worrying too much about not getting enough of it. so i would be happy with seven, and relax and not worry. otherwise you might lose sleep worrying about not getting enough sleep.

It's funny how some experts tend to say you need 6 to 8 hours sleep whereas others say you need 8 hours a night. I wonder how we can find out which is the truth?

Yes, I have heard of some individuals that seem to need less sleep than most of us. I have heard people on a raw food diet are so healthy they need a lot less sleep than most of us. I don't think anyone has every done a proper sleep study on if this affects them though, most of them just feel so good that they don't need as much sleep.

i read something in the daily mail recently, which is the newspapers in the uk that everyone says you should never believe. but anyway, i read in it recently that there was some research that said that sleeping for less than 6 hours a night over a long period could be damaging to our health. and that seems to make sense. though our former prime minister margaret thatcher apparently only had four hours sleep a night, but she's not an example i would recommend following. i think it depends on the person, but i think staying in the 6 to 8 range is best. that just makes sense, though 8 hours a night every so often is nice.

Lack of sleeping, our physical health is damaged. Only through relaxation by sleeping we get even mental peacefulness. As you said sleeping hours should not be less than 7 hours daily.

Yes, I think for the last couple of nights I haven't been sleeping enough. Today I went swimming and then I felt very tired afterward. I think the exercise is helping my body catch up on it's sleep and tonight I should sleep soundly.

When I got a loss sleep,I would feel tired and out of spirits. But if I sleep more next night,I will feel better. I think wakefulness will harm for health is directed to longterm wakefulness. If we just loss sleep one or two nights,we just sleep more hours next night. Our body will feel better.

Yes, sometimes I have had very little sleep, when I used to study and you wouldn't be able to think as clearly. I think it also can affect your self esteem if you miss out on lots of sleep because you don't feel as good about yourself.

I know it is a bad habit, 4 hours is my time of sleep everyday. starting from around 2am to 6am. I stay up late to play games online because it is so addicting, and I will be half asleep in my class. People call me the "Pro sleeper" because I can even sleep while standing. I should really change this habit or else it will ruin my life.

Yes, because there are really interesting studies on the health effects on people with this type of sleeping, if you search for some of these studies on the internet you may get worried enough to stop playing games a little earlier. Search for "sleep debt". I just looked it up again - some of the side effects of getting a big sleep debt are heart problems, foggy brain, insulin resistance, obesity and worsened vision. It is probably a lot worse than you imagined. I can understand the addictiveness of online games, maybe force yourself not to get online at night if you can't control it, or ask someone that lives with you to make you get off the computer at night until you can control it a bit more.

I always have to get up early for school and I tend to sleep late as well. Not a good combination. On average, I get around 7 hours but then again I wake up often at night because I'm such a light sleeper. One slight movement or noise, I'll just wake up and it'll take like another half an hour before I'm asleep again. I always get eye bags all the time even if I sleep 8 hours and more. I guess the bags are evidence that I have lots of catching up on sleep to do.

Wow, it sounds like we have similar sleeping patterns. I don't have as many sleeping problems as I used to, I think worry really affects my ability to get to sleep. I also know what it's like to wake up and not be able to get back to sleep, so I sympathise, then you wake up feeling terrible to go to work. I found exercise, often helps me sleep better later and helps me deal with stress more.

I normally go to sleep at say 10-10:30pm and I have to wake up at six for the gym. When I have little sleep I really feel it the next day at school. I get so tired and moody and my friends get annoyed at me. I know I should sleep more than I do, especially at my age, but whenever I go to bed early I just lay awake. Can't help it.

Well it sounds like you are getting 7 1/2 to 8 hours sleep a night, if you go to sleep at 10:00 you would be getting the right sleep for you, so you are doing pretty well, especially on the 10:00 nights :)

I sleep around 7 hours a night. But sometimes I have to work late and then I get a little less than that. It is really bad for your health because your body needs to take a break and get strong again for the next day. So when I don't sleep very well, the other day for me is really bad. I feel heavy, sick and really tired! Take a rest every night and eat healthy is the best way to have a happy and healthy life!! take care!

i watch the doctor oz show n he reccomends atleast 8 hours of sleep a day... The consequences of not completing your sleep is putting on weight.... Nw thats a bad thing,,, Since i have started working recently...i get to sleep for approx 6 and a half hours... N it has already started showing as the size of my abdomen is increasing...before i had a flat stomach... So guys please try to sleep for 8 hours.... And remember...sleeping more than that is also not good for health...

In the summer, I stay up later because its the holidays and its too bright to go to sleep at 8.00pm. I generally get about 6-7 hours of sleep on a rough night. I tend to wake up early in the morning because "I can't sleep anymore". I also get over tiered quickly and so i find it hard to sleep.

I get around 9 hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep can be horrible for your health. You can become mindless. Lack of sleep leads to a persons demise faster than lack of food and water, I believe. When I don't get enough sleep, I find that I cannot concentrate or do my job as well as I can if I had gotten the full 9 hours of sleep.
