Why do so many Chinese mothers-to-be go to Hong Kong and American to give birth with a great cost. Such market demand has developed a matured industry chain in the US and Hong Kong. Those mothers do contribute to the local economies. Those parents think the high cost is worth when they can get their babies the Hong Kong and US identity which entails better welfare than that of mainland China. But as those their children will be raised in mainland China, they will not enjoy their privileges in a short term. On the other hand, they can not the mainland China's citizenship rights which means they will pay more to go to private schools in China. Once you are born in the US you have, by birthright, the most precious thing called choice. You can choose where to live. You can choose what to say. You can choose who to vote for. You can choose who to pray to. Till you live in a country where these basic choices are not available you have no idea how precious choice is. These parents are making a huge sacrifice to give their children freedom and human rights.

Sure you have better welfare in US. As a Chinese living in China, I have the right to tell the world that Chinese people also have the freedom and human rights. It is not like what the US media has been cramming in your head. You just sound ridiculous and just like the US and western media to all Chinese people.

No espoir, I am very happy to be friends with Chinese people. I would be very happy to be friends with you. But friends must be able to talk frankly with each other and not hide things. I know that the UK is not perfect. My government makes mistakes and does things that I don't approve of and I tell my member of parliament my thoughts when I see him. The important thing is that I can say my complaints to the ruling party without fear of persecution, even when I am a paid up member of the ruling party. As I understand it, that is not the situation in China and you have many people in prison or open arrest who's crime is to speak out against your ruling party. I would be interested in your comment.

To be frank, I don't quite understand what they are thinking.I don't think the US or Hong Kong identity can give their children better lives. They will grow up in mainland China, after all.

Most of these mothers have one child already. You know One Child Policy is a basic policy in China. So namely these families have to pay for a punishment by money and it is a lot. It is not a small amount. And today more and more people are not satisified with the current situation. They prefer their children to be a citizen in a foreign country so that he/she may have a good future since the education and health care in these foreign countries are good. So they want to pay for the money to let their children to be born in foreign countries rather than paying for the punishment. I love China

I love China too. The Two-child policy trial has been implemented in some areas of China now.
