one of our friends just found out that her father who is dead 16 years ago has a daughter. that daughter is 25 years old and she is 41 already. after all this years it would be really a shock when you find out things like this. she was searching at FaceBook of people with the same surname as she is. then if the page is not private she will look at pictures to see if she knows the person or if the pictures has any sign that this person is her relative. while she was looking around she saw a picture of that girl and her father. so she is now with communication with the said half sister. facebook has really a lot of magic it connects and shocks people. i just hope it is always in a good way.

Wow I would have been really shocked too to find things like those. Anyway if they are in good terms then I really think it's a good thing and facebook has done a great job. Yep facebook is indeed magical and full of surprises but can be pretty scary and nasty at times too. I've read about so many wonderful stories but some really tragic stories of facebook so yes it is a boon as well as a curse at times.

it is first a scary thing for our friend, for she has no idea that her father has a love child. but she wanted to know the girl better so they started sending messages and when they are both online they will chat. then they met already personally. she was happy to find a sister but she can not tell her mom. she does not know if her mom knows that their father has a love child. her mom might not take it very well. mom is age 79. thanks a lot for the response.

the eldest who lives with their mother says that the mom doesnt need to know. for their mother has nothing to do with that girl. i am thinking too if ever something like this happens to me maybe i wont tell it to my mom too. she is at the time of her life that all she needs to do is to enjoy and to be happy. that is my opinion. what about you?

Yes actually that is a scary and shocking discovery. I would've been dumbfounded too!! Yes this truth might be a bit to harsh for her mom. SO what is she going to do? Will she keep it a secret?

This is an odd case on Facebook. I've never heard of something like this. It's lucky though that they found the sister. It seems Facebook has other functions besides socializing online.

i myself would not believe but its our friend who told us the story. the problem is her mother is 79 years old they dont know if she knos that their father has a love child. she dont know that she has a half sister out there and she knew only by searching on people with the same surname like she had. trying to locate long lost relatives then she did not expect that she will locate a long lost sister. thanks a lot for the response.

Either way, that's still great she found her. That's great news, no doubt.

Hi! That's really amazing. I thought stuffs like that only happen in movies. That's really surprising. I can imagine how your friend must have felt shock upon learning that she has a stepsister. Well, that's great. I mean, to have found another member of the family is nice. I wish them good luck and I hope they get well together.

Yeah. It's the kind of thing that you don't really encounter everyday plus the fact that the reason for it, the father has already passed away. This is really refreshing. At lease FB is just not all about those bad issues and everything.

as of now they are doing okay. the little sister knows that her father has a family so she knows that this day will come, but of course how to face it is a different story. but of course God always finds a way. i am happy that there is a happy story Facebook can offer, not all negative. thanks a lot for the response.

well, that is the good thing about facebook, you can get reconnected with people which you have not communicated for even a long time. i found friends from the grade school and high school. even those teachers and professors. but the bad things about facebook is, some people use the site to scam people. let's just be careful connecting and communicating with people which we really do not know.

its true that we find a lot of people from our past that we are happy to find. childhood neighbors, classmates, friends who live abroad. but this case is extra ordinary. our friend found a sister of hers that they dont know about. this is the first time she knew that her dad has a love child. i too have a half brother but we are all aware of him from the start. it was a shock for her at first, but she is matured enough to deal with it. thanks a lot for the response.

We also did some background checking like what your friend did. But, it was for our cousin that we never met, because she is also not part of the first family of my uncle. Well, I'm still hoping to meet her in the future. :) Also, FaceBook is not always about good things though. Apparently, there are crimes that have been done through FaceBook.

I believe that the old timers did things like this. I know that my cousins found out that they had step brothers after many, many years. I do not believe in keeping secrets from my children.

i dont like keeping secrets from my family either. just think of what the child has deprive from. i dont like to blame anyone from this but i am also happy that our friend has found another member of their family even their dad has hide it from them. i guess there are no secrets kept forever. thanks a lot for the response.

One of the things that I really like about Facebook is the fact that you can get in touch with people who haven't spoken to for years on end and, sometimes, people who you didn't even know existed. I have got in touch with a couple of cousins who I didn't know about, and we've since met up in person and become really good friends because of it. I have a friend who found out that she had a sister through Facebook and that actually went really well for her too and now the two of them meet up a lot and their children are friends, too.

Nice to hear that. And i am pretty sure that thousands of people thank facebook everyday as it helps in numerous ways. Everything has two sides and facebook is no exception. Many people use facebook in bad ways also. Still facebook is doing great.

welcome to mylot funky. in any site there are really good and bad sides. there are also good and bad people. so we really need to take care of our personal information. facebook has a lot of not so good news already but i am sure there are a lot of good news as well. so we really need to be extra careful and watchful. thanks a lot for the response.

Oh yes this can certainly happen with a lot of people today. I am one who does have siblings for which I have never met. So it is possible to find them on Facebook as Facebook is used by so many today. As you say it can be pleasant and or sad surprises sometimes.

so you know that you have siblings... but you never met them yet? our friend does not know that she has siblings out there. so it came to her as a shock. at first it was hard for her to comprehend but then she did not want to lose the chance to know her. as of now they are in a good friendship and getting to know each other. but the problem is she cant ask or tell her mother. she does not know if her moms know about this, if her dad told her mom about any love child. thanks a lot for the response.

hi:) I think your friend is one of the lucky users of facebook, because I never heard story like that that happens there just now, all I could heard is relationships broken because of using that site, or someone get killed or bullied,But perhaps if the users will only use facebook right and with discipline, it has more benefits than disadvantages.
