When a PING is successful you get a reply back from the host showing its IP address and other information such as the time it took for the reply to go through. First information is IP address of your website. bytes are default sending request.. and next one is important. it's time your site responds in ms.. and TTL.. you can get all information regarding ping command and site is : http://techtalkindia.blogspot.com/2011/08/ping-and-icmp.html and to check your site.. you can see your own site using proxy sites like kproxy or others.. if your site is up under proxy sites. then nothing to worry..

Ping simply means in short terms to send a message and ask for one back. When you ping something, you're asking for a reply. When you recieve a long string of text, it means the connections between your site's server and your computer are working just fine. You should receive four strings, as it sends four messages (packets) Now if your friend can't access your site, it could be their computer, your site's server down, or the link you gave them is broken or not completely correct. When typing a url, you have to be exact. One wrong letter or dash or ev even misplaced . will cause the link to be broken and for the user's computer (in this case your friend) unable to read it causing them to get an error. To tell if your site is down or not... go to your site on your computer. Try coppying the url directly from the browser when sending it.

First let me say that PING is not the best option to test websites availability. What this command does is just send a dummy message to the computer you choose (your website in this case) and waits for a response, measuring the times and other factors in the meanwhile. You often will see 4 lines of output in the command window, telling if a response came back from the site or not. If you see something like "response from......." in those 4 lines, you can see there is a computer out there responding to your request, but otherwise there is a problem. Ping is useful but not that good in this particular case. By pinging the only thing you're trying to measure is if you can get a response from other computer. It doesn't means in itself that there is actually a web site running there (for instance, you can ping your own home computer if you know your public IP or even a wi-fi enabled cellphone, which obviously don't run web pages). On the other hand, some hosting providers intentionally block ping request as a safeguard from DDOS attacks so you can't be sure when the ping fails that the site is really down or the hosting has blocked the ping. The best way to test that is just the old and common way, try to open it in the browser, press F5 and if it loads properly, it's online. You can also use the helping web page from one of the responses above which is very good too.

cutygirl: I wanted to tell please type your website address. if u get it it is ok. But then I saw a response a link has been given. If u give the name of the site it tells whether the site is there or not. Excellent one. pl try that. I tested for a site and it gave answer rightly.
