How do you feel about the turn that rap music has taken in the 21st century?

In the 90's, hip-hop was especially important to African-American teens and various visible minorities. It represented them and their problems, presenting it in a way that others could relate to and listen to. In the 21st century, hip-hop doesn't seem something that is as important to people as it was back in the 90's. That's probably because silly topics that tend to offend and criticize others without implementing any positive change, are addressed. I personally like rap music, because I love the way the words can be strung together. What are some of your thoughts on rap in the 21st century vs. rap in the 90's?

Rap, in it's origins, was a creative way to express the oppression of the inner city black youth. Today, it's all rapping about (pointless) murder, and money they never had.
