How great would it be? Do you have a link to it? Or perhaps you've already built it? Solid, finished wood or house? And then how big should your property be at least? Are you more the type and my rather small or the larger the better (after all, one must also clean the house and tend the garden)?

I have the idea in my head. I would like a house that is a mix of a victorian, an old time farm house, and a log cabin rolled into one. I would like it to be abt 2000sq ft, 2.5 attached garage, and of a stairless design. I mean by making it stairless so that if this is "the dream house" I'd like it to be one we could live in as we age and no worries about getting into the basement to do wash or going upstairs to sleep so a nice sprawling ranch of some sort. Or making accomodations so one could possibly have a second floor w/o steps or elevator. The house has to be "green", geothermal heating/cooling, solar pannels ect.

My dream house would have a thatched roof. Downstairs it would have a lounge, a kitchen, a study, a playroom, my disabled son's bedroom and a disabled access bathroom. Upstairs would be my bedroom, my daughter's bedroom, my teenage son's bedroom, my interest room and a spa bathroom. My garden would be full of tropical plants and I would have a swimming pool plus a jacuzzi. Right now I live in my bungalow due to my disabled son's needs. I am unlikely ever to be able to build my dream home but I can dream.

I have my dream home drawn out on a big piece of cardboard - main floor on one side, lower level on the other. Will I ever get to see it? We came close. We saw a house listed in our local real estate listing that grabbed my attention. I went online and looked at the pictures. Perfect! Not quite the same as what I have drawn up (a sunroom rather than an office/library but sunrooms are nice too). It was obvious that the people selling this house bought it for the sole purpose of totally redoing the house and then selling it for a higher cost. The cost was out of our range and the location was outside of town. We would also have to go back into mortgage prison. We paid off our house over a year ago so no mortgage, and selling our house right now would be dumb because it needs so much work to be done on it that we wouldn't get top value for it. So we had to let that house go. I am pushing 50 years of age. My two girls won't be living at home for too much longer. Living in my dream home after the girls leave seems a little bit much. And what my husband and I always say about big houses (and we're not talking mansions because we're looking at one floor so we don't have to deal with stairs), who wants to clean it? My husband would have no trouble taking care of a big yard (which that house also had) but I can't do the cleaning and he does it seldom during golf season. So I doubt I will ever see my dream home... is that too negative thinking?

My dream home would likely be a cabin in a clearing in the woods. The trees would have to be set back enough as to not pose a problem during bad storms... and also not to block the sunlight during the day, because we would need plenty of sunshine for our solar panels. It would have water catchment to supply water to the gardens (in my dream, I can manage to grow things without killing them), a nice big stone fireplace in the living area, a wood cookstove (as well as an electric range), and both front and back porches. Or, I could see myself in a yurt (or two or three interconnected yurts). Of course, the boyfriend turns a tad pale when I mention the "y" word. Or, a houseboat would be nice... There is something charming about living on the water, and it is unusual enough to fit my tastes. Okay, so I have several "dream" homes... and my tastes tend to run more toward the unconventional. I don't require a lot of floor space; however, I do need a properly designed space so that I feel that there is adequate room for my belongings. The space that we are currently in just doesn't feel as though it was properly designed--poor lighting, doesn't keep the heat out, not appropriate storage space.

Double pocket doors - The doors slide into the wall so they don't take up space by swinging open. And they look great!
I've looked at house plans online but I've yet to find my dream home. It might be a little far-fetched, but my ideal house would basically be a one floor mansion. I'm living in a 2-story house now and I can't stand it. I would much rather live in a house with one floor, plus a basement and attic. I also want a lot of hallways. I hate the idea of the front or side door opening right into the living space. I'd rather it open to a foyer/hallway. Also, I value privacy a lot, so I wouldn't want an open floor plan with the kitchen being open to the living room. And instead of typical door that open and close with hinges, I'd want all doors to be double pocket doors (see picture attached). Every single room would have double pocket doors -- living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, library, and bathrooms. And because the doors slide into the wall and don't swing open, taking up space, we might decide to leave it open sometimes. There would have to be at least two bedrooms. I'm not having kids; it'd just be my future husband and possibly a few pets. But in case we have company, the extra bedroom would be nice. A minimum of either 2 full bathrooms, but ideally there would be 3 1/2 bathrooms. One ensuite for the master bedroom, one half bath for the main first room and a full one in the basement. The basement would be completely finished; it wouldn't look like a basement. I'd like it to be a walkout basement. There might be a at least 2 separate rooms (not counting the bathroom), one for the laundry and the other would be the den where everyone would go if I were having a party or get together. Well this ended up being a lot longer than I thought it would be, and I never even got to the yard!

My dream home would be huge! There would be at least 7 bedrooms as I have 5 sons and my hubby and I. Those would be located upstairs. With private baths for each bedroom. In the central hallway would be a large bay window with window seats and built in shelves for books books and more books. An inviting spot to sit and read by the light of the day. Downstairs would be a great entry hall with the family gathering room toward the back...where there would be a spacious sunroom that would lead to the gardens outside. To the right of the entrance would be a library. To the left would be the kitchens area. My kitchen would have large island for food preperation including a dual sink. My stove top would be a flat top grill for cooking as the noraml sized 'eyes' of regular stoves do not accomodate the large sized pots I need to feed my family. lol I would have a convection oven and a stone pizza oven built into the wall. My counters would be marble not only for its beauty but for the ability to make great confections... I would have 2 refrigerators and at least 2 freezers. To hold all of the foods so I wouldnt have to trek to the store every other day! hehehe I would also have a nice walk in pantry for dry goods. Off the kitchen would be the dining room and also the laundry room Out side I would have an inground swimming pool encircled by a privacy fence and a pool house. The rest of the area would be approximately 40 acres of land for various walking gardens, orchard and vegetable gardens. With my family so large I envision a home that would always accomodate my children and in future their children. I too do not expect my dream to come to fruition...but as you said? One can dream! And why not dream big and true to your heart?! This is a wonderful topic...and who knows I may come back to add more and more to my dream home... Oh I also see a lovely attic full of nooks and cranies and plenty of character...

The way I see it, if you can afford a house like that then you can afford to have someone clean it. I wouldn't be able to keep a house that big clean as I am disabled with a chronic pain/fatigue illness. I love the sound of your kitchen... sound's like Oprah's.

I would never "just" a single house! If anything, several Houses in different regions of the world otherwise I would feel imprisoned in a cell as before - not that I want! Independence is the most precious commodity!

The garden must be great. Anyway, of course, is big advantage. The more places for adults and children the better, logically or not? And if one has enough money for a big house, you can pay for itself probably flush or clean-up gain.

It has about 140 sqm living space, 3 bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, living room and possibly two bathrooms, a guest toilet, a cellar, included a laundry, workshop and bar, and direct access from the living room onto a terrace and garden, the only consists of a large meadow that is bordered by ornamental laurel! Established it would be combined in a country style, with new furniture!

I'd like a medium sized house that has a huge garden, a pond and an area to plant some trees & flowers. the living room will be an African tribal design with animal patterns and lovely African things. My bedroom would be white so that i can draw what ever i want on it. Also one of the rooms will be for birds & tortoises & lizards.
