What does it look like?

Exploding data - More megabytes to come
Canada

Global data transfer and transmission is exponentially increasing all the time . Its not something concrete, something that we can look at. I was happy to find this explanation of it and now it puts it more in a concrete perspective . Helps me understand how it all works. Which surprises me that, indeed, it does work!! Do you understand what megabytes, hyperbytes all mean? Is it something you can grasp? Do you think we'll ever sort of run out of space? You do? I wonder what they'll do then if we ever run out of virtual space. Maybe they'll think of something else? Does it worry you that it might happen?

I grew up watching computers become what they are today. I studied the language that was used and invinted when computers became more pronounced and did more then just read from punch cards. So I actually understand, and report problems using the correct termaknology which impresses a lot of computer repair techs. Some wonder why I bring my computer to them or call costmor support. Simply put, I can do my own trouble shooting to a point, but if there is something wrong that requires eyesight that's where I have the problem. I'm blind, and if my hard drive crashes to a point I can't restore it, or something with the hardware acts up I have to ask for help. To answer your question about space. The possibility seems highly unlikely. Just when you think you might run out, someone somewhere comes up with a way to expand, and if nessary come up with a term higher than gig. But, until they run out of the possibilities for "gig" it'll be here to stay for quite some time. And yes, gigabites are a LOT of space.

Oh Im not really worried that we'll run out of space. As you said, Im sure they'll come up with another name for even more space. Its nice to be able to "see" what it might be like for those of us who cant quite grasp it. Its like trying to imagine what our earth looks like in all the universe....just a speck of dust!!
