Is the episiotomy necessary?

I read a post and I have a doubt whether the episiotomy is necessary or not. Since here if the woman will delivery the baby naturally, 99% will have it. Are these advantages are more than side effects? Did you have it?

I guess doctors just want to be on the safe side in most cases of episiotomy. I read a report somewhere that the episiotomy was not justified in over 75% of cases. And personally I hate it . It does not make childbirth interesting to me. Of course if it is absolutely necessary then no problem but just tearing every woman up is not so cool for me.

I hope the doctors will be careful and make the best decisions for the patients.

I guess it depends on the circumstance. I myself had it done when I was in labor with my oldest. Was it really necessary in my case? Probably not. But it was my first pregnancy and I was absolutely terrified about giving birth so the doctor decided to give me one.

I did have an epistolary with the birth of my second son, but not with my daughter who was first. In all honesty it was discomfort but not really painful. It healed rather quickly and have not had any side effects afterwards and or to date.

It was surprising to know that you had the epistolary with your second birth rather than the first one.
