Limitations for children in watching the television...

It is good to set a limit for children in their time for watching the television especially those in school age. It could strain their eyes or they may watch shows that is not good for their age. My are allowed only to watch television if they already finished their school works and only for the maximum of 1 hour with the condition too that we choose what they watched. I do allow them for cartoons during weekends but still with limitations. The good thing is they develop now a habit of waking early in Sunday morning just to watch the televised Holy Mass besides going to church every Saturday afternoon. Children should have a balanced environment and they should know their limit on early years of their life.

That is very good. That gives the children to balance their times, and also get the sense of importance to give enough time to their school works too. You are certainly doing the right thing. The children will definitely value your guidance as they grow up.

Thank you... I hope too that the discipline will pass until the next generations of my family.

I live in England, and on another site I use there was a woman who actually posted a topic about what to do when her little one screams the house down because she can't watch her favourite kids channel. I told her to get some guts and turn the darned thing off, it's a control issue. If she can't manage to take control of the telly, how on earth is she going to take control of anything else in her daughter's life! The kid is only two, and already ruling the roost. She apparently reported me for being rude. I agree with you, especially since most of what is on television these days isn't fit for anyone to watch.

Hello Kojigirl...we have the same line of thought regarding discipline of children. Little ones do understand well meven at their young age so they must know the rule. In our country, respect for elders is highly regarded and was being thought at an early age. If we love our children, then we must know what is good for them.

I agree. Too much television dampens creativity and the thirst to learn new things and explore the world. I think this is very important for kids growing up. Watching lots of television makes you feel bad after watching too long. At least that is what I find. I get a mild headache and sore eyes.

That's very good practice. Of course not every show on the television is fit for children to watch. Same here, i only allowed 2 hours for my son to watch cartoon on either television or through internet. I m make sure that he always done his homework first before he is to sit there watching cartoons. Even i am trying my best to filter that he only allowed to watch cartoons that are not violence. I think violence shows are not suitable to children at all.

I completly agree wth what you say, but I would add that it is up t the parents to have other games and toys for children so that they are not bored. I spent some time with my daughters at the kitchen, in spite of the mess resulting. They also had books to colour and to read later on. We would also do some acting, with them learning small poems and songs and doing their shows in front of us to get the applause. It is better to give them other interesting alternatives than to just prohibit them something.

Yeah! That's right! You have to limit what your children can watch on the tv now. There are so many violent, horrific and disturbing shows you wouldn't want your child laying eyes on. Usually, my little cousins are restricted to watching one tv channel which only has children cartoons. Kids shouldn't watch tv at night either so it's better to have the tv outside and not have one in their room.

Certainly, it is a good practice and disciplinary for children to focus on their school assignments before watching TV shows. Setting a limit watching TV during school days is good and we should begin it from the time the kids were young. My brother don't allow his son to watch during weekdays and I appreciate that.

You are certainly right. Watching to much television is definitely not good for children. Not only it strains their eyes but it will also affect their study habits. It is also very important to monitor what they are watching considering that some movies may provide them a bad influence.

I agree with you.The first 2/3 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development.TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing & interacting with parents, elderly people, which encourages learning and healthy physical & social development. As kids get older too much screen time can interfere with activities such as physically active, reading, doing homework, playing with friends and spending time with family. So in my opinion,it would be good for parents to control the use of tv and teach children that its for occassional entertainment and not for constant escapism.

I agree with you. IF children watch too much television, it's possible that they will become immersed with the world within the t.v., and not want to really do anything with the real life. Giving them a set time limit and various restrictions is also a very good idea. You don't want the kids to start channel surfing onto a violent or inappropriate show!

yes very true. esp regarding cartoons, limit should be set.
