Windows Easy Transfer

My new Windows 7 computer will be delivered next week and the onerous job of transferring files and settings from an XP computer looms ahead. I know that 7 has the Windows Easy Transfer utility and I have already downloaded the compatible version to my XP computer. I am hoping to make a Win Transfer file to an external HD. Has anybody used the WET utility? Any advice? Suggestions? Better ideas?

I never really tried it. When I upgraded my operating system to Windows 7, I just backed up my files to a different drive manually. I think it will be okay to use it as Windows provided that for that purpose. Good luck!

I always back up my system to an external HD, but of course, I do not want to restore what I have now to a new computer with new OS. I thought about transferring my files and settings manually to the external HD, but quickly 86'd that idea. Gawd! That would be a helluva job I do NOT want to tackle. I am sure the WET utility is OK to use and that is my plan of attack. I just wondered if anybody had already tried it.

Well, if you're finally done with it, tell me how it went. Thanks and good luck!
