August, the city deserted, but this year .....

I remember the years past, when it was customary to gather in August in the city deserted, as many moved to holiday destinations. This year, instead of striking because of the global crisis that has affected all a while, I find myself in the hottest month of the year, in a city that teems with people. At least the past year I had the satisfaction of finding the car park easily, but this year ... not even that ! It saddens me to one side the thought that now people no longer have the financial ability to indulge in this luxury, at least in the the month of August, but unfortunately ... this is the reality !

You are right! Athens is much the same. The traditional holiday time, when half the shops and businesses were closed, just hasn't happened this year. And with the foreign tourists very much in decline too, the city is still open for business - but no one seems to be buying!
