Stuck in closet for 2 days!

My husband and I needed to leave town fairly quickly and decided that our cat would be fine for two days. We left several bowls of water and several bowls of food for him to have while we were gone. When we returned on Sunday afternoon, we discovered that the cat had been in our closet when we grabbed our overnight bags and shut the door! He had been in the closet the entire time. Amazingly, he did not use the bathroom anywhere! How could he have gone that long without using the bathroom? I felt so bad. Has this ever happened to you?

yep, The Doctor spent most of 3 days before being discovered, he never even meowed, and there was someone here - she finally heard him trying to dig his way out - he went right to the water bowl!

That is exactly where my cat went first...the water and food bowls! I would have assumed that he would have ran straight for the litter box but he didn't!

when they are low on fluids their kidneys kind of shut off to hoard water, that's why cats get in trouble with kidney failure...

elic that is what I was so worried about when we returned and found him in the closet, especially when we saw that he had not urinated in the closet. We watched him very closely for 2-3 days to make sure he was urinating and seemed okay.

Our home has open closets and we never close our doors, inside. We do have someone else that will take care of our cats anytime we go somewhere for however long, though. What was the first thing he did after you discovered him?

The first thing he did was run to his food and water bowls! Interesting that he did not head for the litter box, but I suppose since he had not had any food or water that he didn't need to go as bad as it would seem!

Poor cat. I feel pity of him. Maybe he was afraid because the house is too quiet and he was the only one in the house. It feel strange for him and maybe he missed you that why he go to your closet to feel your presence from the clothes you wear. He felt you were near him when he was in your closet.

That's awful! I'm glad he was okay though. I guess he just slept the whole time or something. That's gonna make me check the closets twice before I close them! I found my kitty in the closed closet once. I wasn't really sure how she got in there, but she'd only been in there about five minutes or so.

That's terrible, poor thing!! Thank god it was no longer than three days. He might have peed but it dried up? Is that possible? I have left my cat outside the apartment in the hallway for I think 2-3 hours. He likes walking outside and laying in the stairway. I guess because it's breezier there. So I let him outside and had forgotten about him (shame on me). He started meowing and scratching the door. I opened the door and picked him up and he seemed like he was crying. What a baby!
