Okay well i kinda wanna start volunteering at the SPCA, I live by one about 10 or 15 minutes away, so I went to their website, and it says you have to pay 20 dollars to sign up. They said it's because they have to get you a tshirt and a name tag. A tshirt should cost like 5 dollars, and I really don't need a name tag. Is this stupid?

If you want to work for a charity, then it is assumed by them that you wish to make a donation (in the form of your time) to them. The thing is, because they're a charity, they can't afford to buy your uniform and your name badge, so they simply ask for a donation from you in order to buy these. Not all charities work like this, but I can see why some would have to. In addition to this, you should remember that most workplaces have a uniform including name tags, so it really does make sense that this would be needed for you here.

A name tag is so others can communicate with you better. and also a T shirt will have there logo on it so it will cost like 15 dollars.

I bet it raises money for the program but i think they should take donations instead of ordering voulenteers to pay a fee. It should be optionsal, but at least you will get a shirt
