finally the frogs are calling

We have had such a cool spring that we have not heard the frogs mating call since last Summer. These wonderfully creatures are treasured around here. They are great insect control workers and just charm us with their constant mating calls. It can get very loud at times but it is part of any Summer hight and has been missed. For the last week it has been warm enough at night to put the frogs in the mood, much to our relief. This means we will have frogs for next Summer. Are you in a place where you can pay attention to natures cycles?

I probably am but do not pay enough attention. We do hear the frogs in the summer times during the evenings. I guess we take them for granted. Your post has reminded me to pay more attention to the natural cycle of life; it can give us a new sense of appreciation.

you would have loved it at my brothers house this summer the neighbor behind them has there own frogs in there back yard pond. my sister in law doesn't mind them but finds them to be annoying after awhile especially when she's trying to sleep and all she hears is the frogs ( my sister in law needs complete silence to sleep)

Hello savy. My daughter has a couple of fishpond that has several frog that were singing or calling earlier this summer. I haven't heard them lately but the pond is now full of pollywogs. When I was in south Carolina last month the katydids were out in full force. Yes I watch the birds but don't do any gardening because of arthritis so can't get down to the ground but watch what I can. I enjoy watching the insects especially the butterflies and dragonflies on the pond.

even we live in the city we still have the chance to hear the frogs mating calls. there are still certain areas here that looks to province. but if we really want to get the feel of nature, we go to the province for some relaxation too.

I try to constantly pay attention to Nature's cycles. I am a real Nature-lover and can't get enough of it! Even when I'm out gardening I stop to watch the birds, bees and little insects, including those unpopular creepy-crawlies! I often have to dash inside to look up some strange little speck of life I've found lurking in the undergrowth. Unfortunately, my pond is 'a puddle'. So, frogs are lacking in my garden. The only way I could encourage some in is to 'frognap' some from the local park! There are thousands of frogs and toads there and nobody minds if a few go AWOL! I desperately need some at the moment as the slug and snail population has exploded in my garden. I can't go out there after the rain unless I do 'The Slug and Snail Dodge'!

Crushed egg shells will keep the snail and slugs away, frogs and toads don't eat those.

I like hearing them in concert. I don't live in a place where there are frogs, but I had been to a friend's house near the sea with those little ponds around and I could hear plenty of frogs in the night and they are making nice noises. I wasn't able to ask if it was like that all the night, but I can remember it has been raining for days in that place.
