Copy cat!

Oh somebody catch that copy cat! She's on the loose! Have you ever felt that someone is trying to imitate your discussion? Every time you start something new, someone would post a comment and then later that person starts a similar one. She's not exactly copying your words but she's copying your ideas. How would you react to that one? It might just be coincidence! And it happens all the time here in mylot since we are all human and we sometimes are thinking about the same thing. But isn't it strange when someone starts off a discussion similar to yours right after she has read what you have written? Will you feel honored that you have given her that idea or would you feel pissed that she's copying yours? Will you feel creepy when she would just wait for your discussion each day, read it, comment and then start her own from what she has read from yours?

I normally do not start many discussions, therefore I don't believe I would one of these. I think it can happen as sometimes members responding to discussions some ideas can spark up. I think if I had similar encounters I would feel it be a bit odd, I hope they are not the same and or exact discussions?

Lately i've been starting my own discussions and i've been starting a lot of them i've been giving my friends a lot of headache! I saw a few discussions similar to mine and almost the same but i'm not accusing anybody of copying mine. Could have been just a coincidence but this discussion was kinda triggered by that and i just added a little spice. Well if someone's following my discussion and deliberately copy my ideas, it would be strange but i won't be pissed off. @payout, just had an earthquake here!

okay third time if you mean me you are very wrong as I may get an idea from something some one else has posted but its not a copy of theirs in any way. I take another approach to something that your discussion or anyones gave me but it has not one thing to do with your subject nor do I copy from anyone. all I write is my own and a broad topic like say teachers may trigger ideas for several different discussions both unrelated to yours or any other persons. She may be talking about a teachers strike and I will be talking about how some teachers in our grade school years have been inspirations to us which is not copied in any way from yours. so I cannot see how I could be this one you call a copy cat. I have never seen anyone make a discussion at all like mine own so I do not know how I would react.but I would be very careful of pointing fingers at anyone unless you have proof she has copied your discussion as ideas are free, they are not copy righted.

Nah i'm not accusing anyone at all. This one was triggered by discussions that i saw today and i'm not accusing you of being a copy cat. I too get ideas from other discussions but i always have my own input to add and i never discussed similar things at all. However there are those who have discussed the same and even told the other person that she had the same exact discussion. That's why i'm starting this discussion pointed to those who felt like theirs have been copied, not to those who have taken ideas from others.

Look at it as a compliment. The person must have thought that your discussions were good enough to copy. At least she is on the same site, so you know what goes on. There were copycats who used to copy discussions from other sites and reposted them on myLot and vice versa.

I'm not really talking about my discussions being copied. This is only for the sake of discussion not a personal experience.

Oh i see. Well, maybe somebody did get some idea from your topic and did it, after reading your discussion. I guess, it's okay as long as it's of different view. But, would that be allowed by admin?

I don’t know really.. I think it depends on who the person is. I know you aren’t talking about me because I haven’t started a discussion in a while now.. so I feel safe that it isn’t me.. but I do think it depends on who the person is. For example, if it were me, and it was you who “copied” my idea.. I don’t really think I’d be annoyed. Because I would know that you as a person, wouldn’t really be into copying ideas, and it would probably just be that reading my discussion reminded you of something. So say for example I was talking about choosing the right shade of red lipstick for your skin tone, and then you had a discussion about how you love red lipstick.. I would know you didn’t copy me.. you just got reminded of your red lipstick from my discussion. So maybe she just gets inspiration from you? And you should be flattered! However, if it’s happening all the time, and she is the kind of person that seems to be copying, I would maybe have a word with her about it, because she is obviously using your ideas to make money and that’s not fair, because it’ll also mean Mylot is just full of the same types of discussions over and over again which get boring for people to read, and then those who like to comment are loosing out!

It's not you, it's not anybody. Just a discussion that sprung up when i noticed there are so similar discussions and when i saw one exactly like mine. But if it happens i won't get mad as well, but if it happens all the time and each time i start mine, that's another story. I would really feel uncomfortable.
25 Aug 11
ohhh. ok. so no one in particular? well of course you'd feel uncomfortable.. and no one wants a load of discussions on mylot exactly the same do they?

i seldom makes discussion so i don't know what's in her mind. Maybe she idolize you so much and just want to be like you. Just think of it as a positive way. Just leave her behind. She doesn't worth your attention my precious lady. But i really wanna know who that person is.

No,I have never felt that way. There has been times when I am starting a discussion and see at the same time or a minute after I post it that a discussion similar to mine has started. I realize thou, that someone else could of started it at the same time that I did,so neither of us realize it is happening. They could be saying, that I was copying theme.,you never know.

i think this is normal happening on mylot since some people are running out of topics. besides, there are so much discussions already posted. but when you feel your thoughts and discussions are just being copied, you can report it.

Well I really would not feel angry. Let the best man win is what I would do. I mean mylot really does not want to many of the same discussions going on because it seems like people are just repeating what is already posted and they are just trying to earn money instead of deal with the reason of the site. I am not sure who would want to respond to the same discussion twice anyways. I would not worry to much about it. I am sure if you searched the topic you are discussing you will come to realize someone probably made a similar discussion in the past. It happens. I know it seems weird because it is right after yours and they can clearly see it when they start a new discussion but like I said I would not worry to much about it! Just do what you do best here at mylot! Be yourself!

Yes i know and i've mentioned it already. I've been here for quite sometime already and actually some veterans stopped coming here because they don't see anything new in mylot. People keep posting the same things again and again.

I be honoured if someone is copying me at least i know that someone appreciated my ideas and that my idea is good. The good thing about MyLot is if i ever thought of something than someone also have the same topic to discuss. Hey, its not me okay to copycat because i hardly post a topic if you see my posts sometimes no one replies cause it may be a boring topic for them to reply. So copycat is out of the question for me.

Well it's not me either and though i like starting discussions, i usually write about my own personal life experience.

It's possible that this is happening. I have not noticed it because I paid not attention. But I think the admin of MyLOt can notice this and do something. On other hand there are so many members here that it can't avoid coincidences on the topics chosen in a discussion, including their titles. It would be good if there is a way to know the already similar discussions and titles existing, when you are starting one.
