Build a New Mosque but don't rebuild a Greek Orthodox Church at ground Zero

It seems that the New York/New Jersey Port Authority is doing everything in its power to block the rebuilding of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox, which was destroyed on 9/11. There are some who say that to build a Christian Church would be insensitive to other people (Muslims) and not to build the Mosque would be insensitive to Muslims. Since when are we so concerned that we don't offend Muslims yet it is OK to offend Christians any time and in doing so tell them to be understanding of others feelings. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/24/nyregion/24greek.html

Read more carefully. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/19/nyregion/19church.html The truth, of course, is that the Port Authority is in no way blocking the rebuilding of St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas doesn't want to rebuild on the site of the St. Nicholas had stood on, they want to trade the site for a larger plot of land owned by the Port Authority, get paid a cash bonus on top of that, and build a new St. Nicholas on that new plot of land. For some reason I can't comprehend, the Port Authority was willing to do the deal and pay $20 million on top of swapping a big plot for a little plot. For some reason I can't comprehend, the Greek Orthodox Church wants more money than that. For reasons I understand perfectly well, the Port Authority declined to give them any more money than that and got on with life. The one and only reason construction hasn't been underway at St. Nicholas for years is that the Greek Orthodox Church wants a hand-out from the Port Authority, and the Port Authority -- which just raised tolls and fares AGAIN to pay for operations -- decided not to shower millions of dollars on top of a sweetheart land deal.
