Well The best way to increase your skills is to pick a picture that you really love and try to draw it. Keep doing this and do not get discouraged by failure and you will be a great artist.

The best thing you can do is practice whenever you can for as long as you can each session. Drawing is one of those skills where refinement depends on how much drawing one actually does. I know because I took drawing geared art classes throughout high school. :) Another piece of advice is to get some how to sketch books. These tell you the right way (or the best way) to do certain things like shading and forming parts of your subject. Without some form of guidance you may find yourself getting into the habit of drawing things in curious and maybe even poor ways. These poor methods become habits and that's no good as habits are hard to turn around. :)
