How do you determine the readability of your writings? Do you just plod oh, not caring about it, do you use certain guidelines, or do you use a particular software to determine the readability of your writings? The software that I am using does not give any guideline on how to ensure whatever is written reaches a particular age group.

I meant the age range. So far most of writings have been tagged as being readable by high school students. i have no real clue on what need to be done if I want to make them readable for a younger age group. Or I should not make any attempt to do it.

When I am writing for clients I use www.grammarly.com It really clears up little things you don't notice that has changed if you have been out of school as long as I have. you can check it out for free for 7 days. It has really been helpful to me as I also taught my son his last three years of high school. He graduated with a 3.42 GPA. I had to burn the candle at both ends to keep up and be able to teach him so he could understand as he went. Good Luck with your writings I just find this program really good on construction and sentence structure.

Thank you for the recommendation. Can you suggest a way on how to use a grammar checker to ensure the readability of a piece of writing is suitable for a particular age group especially children?

I don't really have a target group of readers for my writings. Likewise I read anything and everything without scrutinizing the contents or the authors. A century ago it was believed that print would make everyone wise and good, just as food makes a man healthy. But food can produce gout, and print can produce intellectual indigestion. Because of the abundance of words offered to the public it might be helpful to ponder a few suggestions on the subject of reading - serious reading. Out of the crowd of books which push and shove themselves under our eyes, we have to select and extract those few which are fit to be our companions.

I make sure to write short sentences with proper grammar. The message in our writing should be made clear to the reader.
